this dinner time i took a 15mg mirt i was drowsy but i never fell asleep just restin my eyes then up an started to make a sanwich. i was hopin to get at least 1 hrs kip in!!!! has arnt these soppose to knock most people out for 12 hrs?

lower doses are actually more sedating, try 7.5.mgs.
i'm not sure about 12 hours, mirtazipine's sedation is basically on par with a strong antihistamine.

I have used mirtazapine and my dose was 45 mg. Starting w 30 mg.
It makes you drowsy just enough to get you to bed. Very light medication, but good if you're depressed.
Just be careful because it normally makes you gain weight.

No, I don't think that it would knock yourself out. Not at all, IME.

Zispin fits into the atypical antidepressants group, sedating at liwer doses and notorious for weight gain.

ive got zopiclones 7.5mg but dont want to take nighty for fear of tollerance addiction so thought the mirtaz would be a good choice to combat the insomnia?

anti-depressants, while not as severe, also have tolerance, addiction, and withdrawals. if you mainly use mirtazipine for sleep regularly and stop taking them abruptly you can get pretty bad rebound insomnia amongst other things. i'm not saying its bad for insomnia, it helped mine a lot, but if you aren't depressed it isn't wise to take an antidepressant solely for its ancillary effects.

have you tried hydroxyzine or promethazine? they are non-addictive prescription antihistamines with quite a powerful hypnotic effect. i take 25mgs of hydroxyzine at night and it does wonders.

thats weired so youre sayin less is more (sedating) i wonder how that works?

More like the sedating effects are at there top at a low dose (could be at 3,75mg for some, yes itś thatstrong) and they don't get any stronger. But the effects on other neurotransmitters like nor-epinephrine/ serotonine do get stronger when raising the dosage. Btw Mirtazapine is technically not an ssri if my info isn't outdated.
"acts by antagonizing the adrenergic alpha2-autoreceptors and alpha2-heteroreceptors as well as by blocking 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. It enhances, therefore, the release of norepinephrine and 5-HT1A-mediated serotonergic transmission.....In contrast to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)" from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11607047 Wow this quote that I pasted looks a bit manipulative to proof my point the .... part actually stands for some unneccesary info I left out. But it seperates the two parts that I almost glued together don't take it as an offence Keeping not intended that way :) .

The sedating effects are very pronounced ime but unlike gabaergics there is no fun anywhere. And I guess that for those that have worked their way through the otc anti-histamines these effects should be lessened or absent. But that's not speaking from personal experience, no otc sedativeanti-histamine's here. Try going to bed and letting a 3,75/ 7,5mg dose disolve under your tongue, if you don't mind the numbing nature it has (less then cocaine/ lidocaine but present) And it does make me sleep too long and feel groggy the next day hope this helps you out somewhat female trouble.

Yeah mirtazapine isn't an ssri which is why it didn't give me sexual side effects when I took it. But it just made me too damn tired.
