I'm currently taking 50 mg zoloft p/d and want to find something easier for coming down from speed ? I think mirta zoloft its not serotonine syndrome combo ...Please let me know what do you think. Thanks8)

There shouldn't be any problems taking mirtazapine as a sedative to alleviate the hypertension/anxiety/depression of a stimulant come down. Taking a smaller dosage (15 mgs max) seems to cause more sedation than larger doses both from my own experience and what others have reported.
Mirtazapine is often prescribed in addition to an SSRI/SxRI, so the combination of Zoloft and mirtazapine should be safe as well.

Yeah, like Offheastro said, if you wanna go to sleep then take a very small dose. If I take mirtazapine an 1/8 - 1/4 of a 15mg tablet will knock me on my ass but I take 30mg in the morning daily and I'm fine.

I was taking 45mg of mirtrazapine daily @ night for over 2yrs then decided I wanted off my antidepressants along with my opiates.. I cut down to 30mg then 15mg @ night... then 15mg every 2nd night... Took me a while once I had stopped before I started sleeping properly again.. But yes, works nice as a sedative for sleeping combined with a sleeping aid such as temazepam.. have no idea whether it would help you come down off of speed though.. but give it a try if you must.

Errrr... 5HT2C antagonists reduce seizure thresholds, not sure how that plays in with everything else mirtazapine binds to. But, post results =D

Sorry to revive an old thread... But has anyone else has any expierence using mirtazapine on an amphetamine comedown?

Seems like it would work quite well, low dose is more sedating, from what I can see its a dopamine antagonist, anti-histamine (and a potent one at that) and an a2 antagonist?

Just after anyone elses experiences with taking mirtazapine on a comedown, dont wanna take it and wind up with some fucked up situation on my hands... cheers

Seems like you answered your own questions from reading the thread. It works. Take a 10-15mg dose. I've used it before and it knocks me out within 45 mins of eating it on a empty stomach.

Orgone was that on a comedown or by itself? I have used it before and its great for sleep. What I am asking is specifically when comming down from amps... its an a2 antagonist would that leave more a1 agonising to occur increasing sides etc?

I used it for the exact reason you are thinking about doing (amp comedown), my use was to sleep after going on a dexedrine spree during exam week. It knocked me out extremely effectively.

Sweet dude, cheers! I will give this a shot and post up how things go... a better alternative than to use benzos id say

Anytime man, hope it the information helps...It will definitely send you to into the void for a while. I remember sleeping for 12+ hours after dosing it.

Yeah knocked me out when I was taking it for a few weeks, great sleep on the stuff, hopefully works just aswell for comedowns!

I think it would be a fantastic comedown/sleep aid at 3.75 - 7.5mg doses, due to its unique (for its drug class) alpha 2 agonist properties, which are healthier than beta blocker (antagonist) drugs in combination with stimulants: mixing beta blockers + stimulants = hypertension, due to the blocking of the stimulant-released-Norepinephrine's vasodilating properties.

ErgicMergic, actually an alpha2 antagonist not agonist dude. Supposed to also be an all-round dopamine antagonist aswell which would help get dopamine receptors back to normal sensitivity, however I don't think it is a strong antagonist for dopamine receptors and IIRC is only in higher doses yet still within therapeutic range.

Im yet to try it, but yeah does seem like the perfect thing for an amp-comedown! When I used it I found the anti-depressatn effects pretty instant and very sedating so I guess it could knock you out and leave you feeling better too, win win it seems, will post back when I try it!

i use it all the time for come downs never had any problems other than not wanting to get up on a morning a lot less problems with mood swings from this than others iv used as well . normally drop 30mg after 4 or 5 days bingeing on eph

Ah yes, SpeedyG, Mirtazapine is an a2 antagonist, not an agonist, but this doesn't explain its effective anxiolytic effects at sub-prescribed dosages, but it is also a 5-HT2C antagonist, 5-HT3 antagonist (anti-emetic), and contains other actions that are unique to antidepressants.

Mirtazapine is the only Rx antidepressant that I would actually consider taking at full dosage one day in combination with low-dose daily clonazepam if my anxiety ever got that bad, for now it's just low dose mirtazapine (3mg/day). SSRI's, on the other hand, I believe work best in in conjunction with microdose amounts, so I'm combining the 3mg mirtazapine with lexapro (1mg), and zoloft (3mg/day).

My main AD is DXM, which I take daily at 60-90mg/day amounts for a year now to prevent opiate, benzo, and amp tolerance from rising, and also of course for its AD and anxiolytic properties via NMDA antagonism and sigma agonism, so take that in to account since it also acts on the SERT as do SSRI's.
