Am wanting to take milk thistle to help repair damage i may have done to my liver due to years of benzo/APAP(CWE) abuse. My main question is if i begin taking milk thistle daily, when i take my dose of valium (normally on a friday night), will the milk thistle and the valium combination be toxic to my liver? hence defeating the purpose of taking milk thistle to help repair damage to my liver...

Appreciate any educated responses!

Milk thistle is pretty innocuous. You'll be fine.

On the other hand I wouldn't expect your liver to be damaged to the point where you need to worry about silymarin therapy.

APAP and ethyl alcohol are the two major hepatotoxins that people consume, if you avoid chronic use of either you shgould have no problems.
Liver function tests are done pretty regularly by doctors too. You can always head in for a check up and have them run a blood test.

What about the affects that milk thistle will have with the valium - i.e. some people have said it increases the effects, others have said that it lessens the effects. Will it be a different high? if so i will stay clear of milk thistle because i enjoy valium gives me currently.

Milk Thistle is better used to help prevent a possible toxic liver response than to help heal damage done. It clears away toxins and free radicals before they are able to do the damage. If the damage is already done, Milk Thistle isn't going to help much.

Drinking milk thistle is a natural extract so you won't really be having any side effects at all drinking it with other medications. So you can still get all the milk thistle benefits even when you take your medication for your liver.

I take milk thistle anytime I take medications, usually once or twice a day. It is a great and inexpensive insurance policy on your liver. My doctor also says that if the damage is already done, milk thistle will be hard pressed to restore you.

That's correct. I've used milk thistle as well and after 4 days I already started feeling the change in my body. I felt good in my liver after all these times that I was suffering from it and it's really great. You just really should not go over the prescribed milk thistle dosage, otherwise it may cause you diarrhea. Just taking what's prescribed for you is enough already.

milk thistle is never toxic to the liver. i take it daily and have mixed it with everything more or less and its likely the only reason i still have a liver lol. ive taken over 15 grams of tylenol in a 24 hr period multiple times (stupid vike HP's and they're massive 650mg or so of apap...) and did this fairly often for a good many years but thanks to milk thistle my liver tests always comeback healthy. also even if you have a badly damaged liver if you eat 1-2 avacado's a week for a month (without further bashing your liver) they will actually repair most if not all of the damage. avacados were recently proven to reverse liver damage i was reading in some medical journal a few months back but look it up when u get a moment.

^ Doses of over 10g of APAP in a single day have been reported to cause death through complete hepatic failure. That was a very foolish thing to do, considering how easy and quick a Cold Water Extraction (CWE) is.

Don't think you are indestructable with your Milk Thistle when combining it with APAP. I would still stick to the new FDA recommended dosages of no more than 650mg per dosage, and no more than 2400mg/day, and that can still catch up with you with chronic APAP dosing.
