Milk doesn't do a body good.

Interesting but easily debunked. It'd be good if someone would write one of these articles and have footnotes or at least references when they state something as fact.

If their name is Dr. Iknoweverything doesn't mean he/she is correct.

The above is written with very 'propagandaish' undertones.

For instance, I could easily paste this link here http://www.teagasc.ie/news/2003/200302-28.htm which states the benefits of milk, but it too does not give research links or references to its facts. However the report at least is referenced from a scientist that at least studies this sort of thing rather than repeats other peoples facts.

Difficult to form an comparative document with baseless bantering as its context.

I'm not saying milk is good or bad for you, just stuff like the aforementioned text is difficult to take in.

I eat dairy.. all kinds.. and my health seems to be pretty good. I think a well balanced diet that included dairy certainly wouldn't harm you. Are there really people dying out there with their health or deaths being directly correlated to the act of having dairy in their diet?

Ahh good thread. Interesting reading back on this.

I've now discovered that I am not very tolerant to dairy products at all (became more evident when I went gluten free) and am giving up dairy completely. WOo!

I am lactose intolerant and a vegan... I feel SO MUCH BETTER when I do not consume milk products. Even if I take lactose pills, I still don't feel well after eating milk.

However, I have a love for cheese. I have been slipping up a lot lately on my veganism (only with dairy products, don't consume meat at all and have no cravings for it) lately and feeling bloated and naeseous, had some occasional bouts of vomitting. I hate dairy but love my cheese.

I don't think milk is bad for you unless you have a biological aversion to it, such as being lactose intolerant. I think when people give up dairy they feel so much better partly because they start to eat healthier; they cut out baked goods, greasy meals with tons of saturated fat, and start eating more vegetables, fruits, and low fat, low grease meals. Same with vegetarianism. I don't there's anything in dairy specifically that makes people feel worse, it's the way that most people who consume milk eat vs. the way most people consume soy milk eat that makes the difference.

However, that's my own personal therory with no scientific evidence to back it up at all. Interesting threads tho. :)

To be fair, a lot of people DO have allergies or intolerances to dairy though. A lot of them without even knowing it. While I totally believe there are people out there who can digest it with no problem, I don't think they are as common as the people it causes issues for. Most people I know seem to have issues with dairy. Not neccessarily enough to make them stop eating it.. but still.. issues.

The growth hormone crap that people spread about milk is utter nonsense. Absolutely no growth hormone would survive the stomach acids and absorb into your body. This has been tested ad nauseum. Why do you think we all inject GH and GH-releasing peptides if we could just swallow it and get an effect?

I don't care about the hormone stuff myself. I just think milk is very, very hard to digest. Just the way it feels in my stomach. I get stabbing gas pains from it.. feels like trying to digest sludge filled with razorblades. :(

well that sounds awful. I would say its probably an allergy. Best to go get tested I guess. Otherwise you dont know if its not just a psychosomatic response to what you think is bad for you?

Milk just is like golden massage in my tummy, it just melts into my body and trickles its way through my muscles repairing me and restoring me to tip top shape.

sorry you and milk don't get along its a great pal to have around!

This is true. I know now it's pretty easy to get tested for lactose intolerance, but when I was younger I remember there wasn't really a definitive test for it. So I spent a lot of years being forced to eat dairy and getting sick.

I think now theres just one test they can run and tell you if you have allergies to it...

No need to get tested. I know my body well. :) I'm not lactose intolerant, just sensitive to a lot of foods. I was never tested for gluten sensitivity either, I didn't need to be. I'm very aware of how things effect me.
