Migraines

I know this is way way way after the rest of the thread, but luce- you've said she's taken a bunch of stuff- what exactly has she tried? Has she seen a pain specialist?

Sometimes Migranes occur in people and the reason is just a mystery, but She should go and see a specialist and be put on some specific medication.

as someone said before caffeine can help, doesnt mean she should go out and gulp coffee you can get prescribtive medications that are made to relieve migranes.. (caffergot I think one is named)

Also Orange and its properties irritate migranes

320mg of Magnesium Citrate and a Feverfew cap daily helped tremendously with mine. May be worth a try.

I'm sorry to hear about this. At one point I was gettin daily migraines, not for long though thank god.

For me not much worked but if I took it early on enough Imitrex would help immensely.

You said she's on a lot of medications, but I would just have her do her own research about what more unusual meds might help. For example Topamax isn't used primarily for migraines but can help them.

Would you be able to get a list of what meds she has tried? Do any of them work, even some of the time? If so which ones?

She has been to many specialists and is going to another one in 2 weeks. She was hospitalised last week because the pain was so bad.
She is also experiencing memory loss and walking into walls etc.
I'm not sure exactly what meds she is on apart from mezindol (sp?). I will find out what she is taking and post later on.

My brother, 14, has recently been getting realy bad migranes and has taken a lot of time of school in the last couple of weeks. He also has ADHD and takes concerta at the minute. He took ritalin up until about 7 months now just concerta.

Apparently he got mild migranes before, but they have recently gotten really bad, This is just me but i was thinking it could be something to do with the concerta, but im no doc.

The thing is, he would complain about being really bad in the morning, and cant go to school, so sleeps for most of the morning, then by late afternoon, evening he's fine and as hyper as usual.

I dont wanna say he's faking, ive thought about it, but sometimes i dont think so.

He's been to doctors and hospital plenty of times and i think he's going to a private doc soon.

I think in my brothers case it could be cos he's always so damn hyper and shouting often. Not to mention the fact that he is never asleep before 12 o'clock, and gets up at 7:30.

For his sake i do hope he gets better soon...

I REALLY feel for your mother-in-law. I also suffer from migraines, since I was in 4th grade and i'm 24 now. However, I didn't get diginosed with them until about 2 years ago.

One of my main triggers was aspertane, which is in almost every diet soda or anything sugar-free that is not made with splenda. I was getting migraines everyday for a rather long time. Once I stopped consuming aspertane, my migraines went down a lot.

When I was getting them all the time, the doctor had me try several medicians, some that worked but made me feel so horrible that i'd rather deal with the migraine, and some of the ones I tried didn't do anything. Tell your mother-in-law that if the medician's arn't working, to tell her doctor that she wants to get off of them. What's the point in staying on the meds if they arn't working? I know one of the medician's my doctor put me on was for high blood-pressure, not because I have high blood-pressure, but to help prevent them. I didn't really like the way I felt on it so when my migraines calmed down after stoping the aspertame, I told my doctor that I wanted to be taken off of it.

However, i've had a migraine now on and off for 2 weeks. Nothing seems to really be making this one go away. I've been back to the doctor and now i'm on some kind of anit-depressent medician that is suppose to be a preventiave medician. The doctor also gave me a presricption for a pain killer, which hasn't even touched it. It made it so that I didn't care my head hurt, but it still hurt. The best combo of medician that i've found that USUALLY works for me is 2 excedrine migraine and 2 advil migraine, although that hasn't done anything for this one.

My mom suggested that I try making a tea out of dried thisle(sp?), that took away her migraines back when she use to have them. I haven't tried this yet, as I havn't really felt like going out more then I must.

I hope this gives you more ideas and again, tell her to talk to her doctor about coming off of the medican if it's not working so she dosen't keep throwing away all her money.
