Ok, I am sober for the first time in my life, but I've been getting chronic migraines (which run in my family) about 5-6 days. Off benzos (my DOC) as well as other shit for the first time in 7-8 years. I just went to a doctor and got some medication for the migraines. Neurontin and Lyrica have both worked in the past. They are also awesome because I have FMS w/MPS.
Anyways, I got prescribed 400mg 3x daily for the FMS and migraines. 50mg Trazodone at night for sleep. Fioricet 1-2 every 4-6 hours for when the migraines get bad.
My question is about zwitterions. I read somewhere that they cannot be rectally absorbed and that gabapentin is a zwitterion. I know that they have a ph that is neutral and shit, but I'm confused about the absorption.
1. How does this apply to gabapentin, and what other drugs that are popular are zwitterions? Also, what are the characteristics of zwitterions? I read in the gabapentin thread that it has a horrible and inconsistent bioavailability. I realize this; been on it for 6 years and it is very unpredictable.
2. Also, I am prescribed 400mg 3x a day, and sometimes it doesn't work well and less seems to get into my system. But because of the bioavailability, I know that there are issues. I know that my doc would prescribe me whatever amount of it. If I took 800mg 3x a day, would more be absorbed into my system, and would it make a difference for the pain and migraines that I experience? Would it work better, and would that be a good idea, or should I just switch to Lyrica (pregabalin)?
Any help/answers are incredibly appreciated. Thank you in advance for all your time and effort in responding.
