Google it,
Aparently the system started the 4th of April.

Anyone know anything first hand about the system and how it will work?

Also how much pressure would this put on a neighboring state if it is a success?

Ann Arbor: The penalty for being caught with marijuana is $25.00 USD for the first offense, $50.00 for the second and $100.00 for the third or subsequent offense (and no incarceration or probation). However, laws do not apply on university property i.e. the dorms; the university has a much more strict policy on possession and/or use.

Conditional release: The state allows conditional release or alternative or diversion sentencing for people facing their first prosecutions. Usually, conditional release lets a person opt for probation rather than trial. After successfully completing probation, the individual's criminal record does not reflect the charge.

Medical marijuana: This state has medical marijuana laws enacted. Modern research suggests that cannabis is a valuable aid in the treatment of a wide range of clinical applications. These include pain relief, nausea, spasticity, glaucoma, and movement disorders. Marijuana is also a powerful appetite stimulant and emerging research suggests that marijuana's medicinal properties may protect the body against some types of malignant tumors, and are neuroprotective. For more information see NORML's Medical Marijuana section.

Drugged driving: This state has a zero tolerance per se drugged driving law enacted. In their strictest form, these laws forbid drivers from operating a motor vehicle if they have any detectable level of an illicit drug or drug metabolite (i.e., compounds produced from chemical changes of a drug in the body, but not necessarily psychoactive themselves) present in their bodily fluids. For more information, see NORML's Drugged Driving (DUID) report.

yeah i thought this was great news personally and I'm in Ohio... can't believe no one else posted about this until after it went into affect

Right guys, this is great. I have a letter from my lawyer that my doctor has agreed to putting on his own letterhead and using it as my prescription for treatment of scoliosis, spinal pain, and other ailments like breakthrough pain after an exercise session. As soon as I have my card (which therin lies my question), I'm going to apply to be a caregiver to myself and to other customer patients. The patient/caregiver situation seems pretty neat too. You are allowed to have a quantity on hand (don't quote this) of 1/4 lb. and for yourself if you are a patient then a 1/2 lb. is the limit.

I was wondering where will it be legal to grow these plants? Do we all need an elaborate indoor setup or can we grow in a secluded area on private property? Also, when we become caregivers, where do we go for seed stock or clones? (please delete if this is sourcing, sorry)

Also, it appears that caregivers will have to advertise to pick up their patient customers. Like on craigslist and whatnot. That seems a little shady to me buy hey it's their game and we're just the pawns, right?

This seems like an obvious question, but what about insurance coverage? And taxation on a plant when it is sold to a patient? Will there be a set amount that a person should consume per refill or will it be used as needed? And can caregivers count on a business they construct serving patients without worrying that the system will change and dispensaries will pop up everywhere and divert all of the business? And who grows for the dispensaries when/if they open?

Will this effect someone who is trying to get a job and has medical marijuana in their system whilst being drug dested? Can someone show their medical marijuana card and explain their condition to as much of a degree as they are comfortable? It would be painful to be discriminated against because of my choice of a safe and effective medication.

When will someone be allowed to use their medication? Will it be set by a doctor to be certain amounts at certain intervals during the day, or simply at night for sleep and RLS, or for chronic nausea as it occurs with many conditions?

Is someone allowed to carry cannabis on their person in a vehicle in a legal amount that they can prove is prescribred and legitamate? How are the bottles and packages lableled for that matter? And what quantities will be available, or be prescribed? Can one carry periphinalia around associated with consumption of the medical cannabis? And what about traveling state to state?

Agh, I have so many damned questions and I've looked around pretty well for the answers. The above is as much a rambling rant as much as it is a list of of all of the questions I that I can think of.

Any medical patients from other states here to give us poor Michiganders some much-needed guidance?

Thanks :), BD

That last part in Frosty's post about drugged driving (sorry i can't copy/paste, I use T-Mobile G1 to post). Does that mean that if you last smoked two weeks ago and are pulled over and urine tested and tested positive, you could could be arrested for driving under the influence? If so that is a major oversight. I hope I am just reading it wrong.

I live in Michigan right now, and med. MJ was legalized. However, you obviously need a permit for it, and from what I hear, they've been really resistant to giving out new permits. As far as the drugged driving goes, I don't believe that there is much that they could do to you unless they could prove that you were actually under the direct influence of a drug while you were driving. It seems like the most that they could do is give you a field sobriety test to determine if you were under the influence of a drug and therefor unable to drive, and then charge you with something related to that. That is just what I've experienced. I haven't ever heard of anybody in this area getting anything other than drunk driving charges, and I know a hell of a lot of drug users around here who have had run-ins with the cops while driving. I'm definitely no legal expert, so please take what I say with a grain of salt.

To bassicdane: Pretty much all of the answers that you seek can be found at: <http://www.michiganmedicalmarijuana.org/>. There, all of the laws and restrictions are listed, and it probably would be easier for you to do some basic searching there than to try and answer each of the individual questions in your post.

I live in Australia and we have drug-vans that set up on the side of the road like a random breath testing but instead they swab test your mouth and then go and quickly analyse it for drugs. If it comes up positive, you're pulled over and your details are taken down etc and the swab test is sent away. Two weeks later you'll either get a fine or you'll get off. Although i'm pretty sure these swab tests do absolutely nothing as i've been with a friend who had just smoked a few cones and was on speed. We got pulled over and he quickly drank down a gatorade whilst we were waiting. When they swab tested him it came up negative and we were all sweet to go. IDK if they swab tests over in America, but I'm 100% certain they won't charge you for driving under the influence if they test you a few days later and you're found positive for THC. There's too much information readily available clearly showing how long THC stays in the bodyfat/blood stream.
