Alongside names like Joey Beltram, Steve Stoll would easily rank amongst the "most important techno figures to EVER emerge from NYC" shortlist. In fact, Steve has lived one of the most profilitic & influential careers in techno history. Never settling for the norm, Steve has always came through with a refreshing unflinching style that is undeniably "Stoll". Steve's extensive discography feels like reading a book, beefed up with remixes from close friends Cari Lekebusch & Damon Wild to fellow staple artists such as Speedy J, The Advent, Joey Beltram, & Hardfloor just to name a few - not to mention he has personally remixed everyone from Gary Numan to DJ Rush. Steve has had the pleasure of playing for crowds all over the world from Europe to Asia at some of the biggest clubs and festivals including I Love Techno, Fuse, Omen, Cocoon, Tresor, Mayday, Love Parade, 10 Days of Techno, Mt. Fuji to name a few. Besides all these accomplishments, he is also the founder & owner of staple techno labels "proper n.y.c." & "212 productions" amongst various sub-labels. Steve's unique sound / productions brought him to global fame & have always caught the ears & eyes of techno's biggest players.

Stoll has been banging around the worldwide techno and electronic scene since the early '90s. His first 12" was released on Richie Hawtin's Probe imprint. Since that time, Stoll has followed standard techno artist protocol by changing labels, handles and partners only slightly less often than his synth patches. His recordings can be found under Steve Stoll, Dark Man, Mr. Proper, Gaiden, Acid Farm, Ausgang, Datacloud and of course his most famous moniker the "Blunted Boy Wonder", and on a countless range of labels including Mute (London), Music Man (Belgium), Synewave (Poland) and his own label, Proper NYC (just to name a few).

Recently Stoll has been more busy than ever, remixing non stop while developing his own hardware company "Proper Boy" (producing items like custom feedback looping pedals, effects processors etc), not to mention working as a Software developer for Ableton Live. Besides his busy remix schedule, in 2008 Stoll released two new experimental full lengths albums on Fax Records (Germany) amongst a slew of new releases. In 2009 he released an album showcasing his new Ambient project with Jeff Green titled "Tangled" on staple Ambient label Databolem, however he didn't stop there. Later that same year Steve released another full length album featuring 10 tracks titled "Windows to the World" which gained international success, multiple releases including "Proper Dub Plates" on his own imprint Proper NYC, a rework of the classic 212 productions release "Handiwork" feat remix work by Cari Lekebusch, not to mention his phenomenal remix of Little Nobody's "Robota" amongst a slew of other others. As you may have guessed 2010 has shown no sign of slowing down either, Steve is currently knee deep in the studio while also spending time in Chicago working with Martin Atkins (ministry/revolting cocks/nine inch nails) on a new to be released project & following tour. Don't miss Stoll on the peak of his hot streak at this rare Detroit appearance!

ARTHUR OSKAN
Matrix, Night Drive, Thoughtless, Toronto. LIVE PA

23509_474143640343_854825343_11023513_562503_n.jpg

As a teenager during the late 80’s and early 90’s, Arthur Oskan began immersing himself in a variety of musical styles. During this time he listened to and soaked in information about studio gurus like Georgio Moroder, Vince Clark and AlanWilder, and industrial bands such as Nitzer Ebb, Cetu Javu, and Front 242. In his quest to quench his appetite for synthetic music he eventually purchased his own EPS Sampler, a TR-606 drum machine, a Roland JX3P and a 4-Track. These early years of training proved invaluable as they provided him with a solid foundation for his budding studio prowess.

By the mid-nineties, following a brief period producing for and performing with Toronto industrial and techno acts, he began recording a series of studio sessions under the pseudonym Auracle. Years later, these very same live studio sets were re-distributed and caught the attention of local event promoters. Armed with his growing collection of analog relics and a 24 channel mixing desk, Oskan dropped incredible sets for several underground events during this time. As time went on, he introduced a more percussive edge to his synthesizer lines and drum programming. By the end of the decade, he had found his place among a solid group of Toronto electronic music producers and DJs, and he was performing with both local and international talent alike.

During the early 2000’s while Oskan was establishing his career outside of music production as a graphic designer, he spent some time in his studio away from gigging. In 2002 he re-emerged and resumed performing live sets at various high profile club events in Toronto. Since then, he has been producing and recording his innovative breed of techno music almost non-stop.

After years of orienting his music releases around harder dance floor techno labels, Oskan decided to expose more of his music by adding productions to his catalogue that were simpler and more delicate. Coincidentally, minimal music was on the rise to its pinnacle of popularity and, as a result, Oskan’s newer productions have been frequently noticed by international labels and artists.

In 2006, under his newer nom de plume, Myers Briggs, Oskan’s performed at MUTEK‘s Le Placard showcase led to the opening of more doors. This exposure connected him to more record labels – Thoughtless Music, Beretta Grey, and Noah Pred’s Sentient Sound – which subsequently released several of his singles and one of his widely celebrated EPs. Today, Oskan’s previous and current productions appear on a variety of labels representing a comprehensive spectrum of techno. His releases reside on labels including Thoughtless, Night Drive, Restructured, SecretWeapon, Cratesavers, Beretta Music, and Matrix Records.

More recently Arthur's new productions have brought him to the Global limelight, seeing acclaim given to his recent work by several of the world’s top dj’s and producers – Richie Hawtin, Funk D’Void, Laurent Garnier, Dubfire, Los Hermanos, Claude Von Stroke, Ken Ishii, Chymera, Slam and Fabric Lig just to name a few. His “Resolutions” EP topped Alan Oldham‘s chart for Tresor (Berlin), and his nine-minute long “Forever” as Myers Briggs, appeared on John Digweed’s “Transmission Vol. 4“. The track has been widely celebrated by James Holden, Nic Fanciulli, and Argentine great, Hernan Cattaneo.

As one of Toronto’s leading live acts, Oskan has performed alongside such international artists including Alex Under, Omar S, Troy Pierce, Heartthrob, John Selway and Someone Else just to name a few. He continues to perform live and produce music for several labels in 2010, and is now working with Fabric London's publishing arm to further grow his international exposure.

TESTE as
PERCEPTRONS

Switch Records, Plus 8, Probe, Toronto. LIVE PA.

l_f7797ae063c98f7c56b2a25c71ae2583.jpg

TESTE was the combination of two very special individuals. Himadri Ghosh and Dave Huren worked together in the greater Toronto, Canada area to create some of the strangest and deepest experiments that were to be released on Probe & Plus 8. Upon driving home early one morning from an early Toronto Rave event, Richie Hawtin put in a demo tape that had been handed to him by two crazy guys. That tape held the original version of Teste's THE WIPE which so consumed Hawtin and his brother Matthew at the time, that they nearly had to pull over to the side of the road. Teste THE WIPE became the repetitive soundtrack to that day's four-hour drive along Highway 401 back home to Windsor, and later stormed the world to be one of the most celebrated post-club, halluciangenic tracks of its days, arguably thee biggest minimal record of all time.

Teste has put out countless releases since the early 1990's to present (as Teste, Perceptrons, Himadri and other monikers) and spanned from Berlin to Detroit playing legendary, sometimes branded lifechaging live pa's spanning through the depths of Techno, Acid, Minimal & Idm. Teste is now touring with their new live show in celebration of the recent The Wipe remixes (by Marco Carola and others) and also their upcoming Switch release. This set is going to be leaning more on the techno side than the last few years of heavy acid not to mention Himadri & D have promised to deliver + some. Long story short to those of you who know these two you know very well to watch out if they felt it necessary to mention this, prepare.

Ok just received a message from Steve, he actually wants me to plug this so.. ahaha (thought I was going to have to be sneaky about it).

During a portion of Stoll's extended live pa, he will be bringing out special guests from a current project in progress titled "House of Lies". They have been in the studio for the last month or so, and will continue to pretty much right up to this event -- they have decided to DEBUT some of that material live, right here to Detroit! The project is fully sponsored by Ableton Live, they will have a booth with free givaways, promo materials, contests & more at the event. Also, they will have a merch booth, will House of Lies t-shirts, cds & more. I guess its kind of a big deal.

The House of Lies project is still in progress in Chicago with Steve Stoll (proper n.y.c founder, novamute, music man, synewave, ableton live software programmer/artist), Nick Meade (programmer for Negative Red, software author, studio guitarist) and the legendary Martin Atkins. For are not familar with Martin - he was the drummer for Public Image ltd or PiL, which is the band the Sex Pistols formed into after their break up, then he was the drummer/programmer in Ministry, also a drummer and programmer in Nine Inch Nails, founding member of industrial supergroup Pigface, author of TourSmart with Henry Rollins & many others, CEO of Invisible Records, world renowned producer, creator/author of countless music production software for almost all brands - pretty much a god in the music industry. This is the first time this particular project (by Steve, Nick & Martin) will hit ears outside of the studio, live.

TIME SLOTS COMING SOON, DETROIT WHUUT! ;-)

So is this event going to cost an arm and a leg like that "other" event going on next weekend? I'd really think about making the drive up for this one!
