Stimulants Methylphenidate (Ritalin) a good choice for a first time stim user?

So I have access to 10mg instant release Ritalin. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and General Anxiety Disorder with panic attacks. I currently take Morphine, Percocets, and Xanax among other drugs, but the rest are as needed, it's only the pain meds and benzo I take every day. I saw an article in which apparently dexroamphetamine (I have no idea what that is but I'm assuming its a stim of some sort) can be used as part of therapy for Fibro in regards to combating the constant fatigue and the Fibro Fog, which is basically memory loss and being unable to concentrate or focus.

What I am looking for is whether this med would be appropriate to try and achieve these results. Better focus, short and long term memory retention, and more energy. No matter how little or how much sleep I get I am always exhausted. This is caused by a combination of my condition and the meds I'm on. I try to stay away from stims like caffeine as I get shaky very easily, but the benzo helps with that symptom.

If I decide to try this, keeping in mind what meds I currently take, and that I am 100% stim naive, what dose should I start at, which ROA would be most appropriate, (oral vs nasal vs sub lingual). And lastly, I do not IV at all.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am a very OCD Type A personality. I need to be as informed as possible and am kind of a hypochondriac so I get anxious very easily. Also, will this med help with increasing libido and sex drive?

uhh
i wouldn't know if i'd personally say methylphenidate is a good stimulant for anyone
given is it going to be too overwhelming? no, as long as you're not stupid.
dextroamphetamine is in adderall and is the generic name for dexedrine (adderall is about 75% dextroamphetamine, 25% levoamphetamine, of varying salts that really don't change anything with regard to effect)
now personally, i'd seek out amph/adderlol/dexedrine (go for that one if you can. I prefer dexedrine over all the stimulants i've tried aside from IV/smoked methamphetamine. smoothness)
I would tell you to sniff it, whatever of these stimulants you do choose to do but I have no idea what inhaling binders/fillers in pills would do to the lungs of someone with fibromyalgia.
It is worthwhile to note that amphetamine opens up bronchial passages. I used to cough up shit when i'd do amphs if I had smoked a lot whilst under the influence.
If I were you, I'd go for lower dose adderall/dexedrine. Preferably dexedrine, but you probably wont be able to find that. I'd leave methylphenidate alone. I find it to be a "crackhead" high, with no legs and strong physical....exhaustion after it wears off, which is relatively quick.
If you insist on MPH though, take 40mg if you actually want to get a high out of it.
for amph, 20 or 30mg should be good.
if your condition doesn't get aggravated by you snorting pills, i'd sniff personally

methylphenidate has the ability to cause a lot of anxiety even at lower doses. I would start with 10 mg oral and see where that gets you. The drug has a lot better bio availability snorted. I can't even feel the good effects from oral route unless I take a ridiculous amount but if I snort it I can easily feel 10mg.

if you are going to try and get this from a doctor I would recommend trying to get dextroamphetamine instead. Dextroamphetamine feels much cleaner, has a less harsh comedown, and lasts a lot longer then methylphenidate.

I´d watch for the heart beat, every here and then depending on how old you are..

I dont know if i would try to get therapeutic effects from a commonly abused stim which im not legally prescribed, especially since youre on alot of other drugs as well.
I think we all can agree that self medication rarely works, and i dont think it would be good for your mind/body to add stims to your daily mix of opiates and benzos.

If you honestly think something like adding stims to the cocktail would benefit you then id suggest you seek advice from a doctor and tell him about your condition.
You could even end up with a prescription,so you wouldnt have to deal with dealers or pay overpriced!

^ I also agree with black kat although doctors don't just hand out amphetamine and methylphenidate, you may have to go through some bullshit to get it.

I have adhd and are perscribed exactly that ^ to be honest...I have been taking it on and off for about 3 years now and I LOVE it. It instantly gets me exited as shit over nothing, and i get a great upbeat high, all i want to do is "imrpove" things, weather I workout or even want to read a book. I feel like I do it better, stronger and longer. Helped me get through school, now I take it daily before work and I am a totally new optomistic person for the next 4-5 hours. Your heartbeat DOES speed up, but nothing to worry about. The only real thing I notice is you lose ur appetite completely. But then i smoke at night and get munchies so I have never had a problem :P Enjoy!

I don't need to worry about losing my appetite, I don't have one to speak of anyways. I do have legitimate research to bring to my Dr to back up what I have learned about the dextroamphetamine improving the fatigue and lack of focus and memory in fibro patients. I have the Rid sitting here available to me right now to try, but I am a very overly cautious person and won't do anything until I'm absolutely sure I'm going to be okay with trying something new. I know a lot of times I'm too cautious. I wanted to try it out first to see if it's even worth approaching my Dr for it, if I hate it I don't want to go through all the hassle of asking for yet another potentially habit forming substance. I don't want to push my luck, I like my Dr, but he already Rxes me opiates and benzos, and when I asked him about Soma he said he didn't want to have me on any move addictive medication without a good reason, and I wasn't going to push it since I already have Zanaflex as a muscle relaxer, and I was looking at the Soma as more of a potentiator than anything else.

So the general consensus is: that this isn't the best choice? Well on the bright side, if I do decide to go ahead and try it, and I find some benefit to it, but don't like some of the effects, I can go into it asking for the dextro knowing that it will be better than the Rid. For HR, should I take it by itself first to see what the full effects are? I know it's pretty short acting, so maybe I could take it one day in the morning by itself, keep a journal to track my experience and only take my Xanax if I feel the anxiety or racing heart gets to be to much for me? Then the next day, try it with my pain meds only, again only taking the Xanax if I have to? Then on the third day take all of my meds like I usually do, add the Rid to it and see how that goes? I would be doing this at the lowest recommended dose. Take 10mg orally throughout this experimental phase and only increase it if I feel little to no effects. If that's the case I would proly switch to snorting the 10mg and redoing the 3 or 4 day experiment that way. I think this plan would give me the most data in the safest way possible. Remember, my ultimate goal here isn't to get "high" it's just to get me on my feet and give me some energy when I need it and allow me to focus and recover some ability to retain info. The fact that it's got a short half life is a plus for me, I don't want something that lasts all day. Can anyone tell me what I should watch out for or expect as far as interactions between the stims and the opiates and the benzos? I have a fairly high tolerance for the opiates and I've been mixing the opiates and benzos for over a year pretty much daily with no problems at all. The worst thing that's happened is I take naps alot lol. I'm hoping this will keep me from drifting off so much!

if your ultimate goal is not to get high and just get some energy 10mg orally might do it for you. That being said I would like to reiterate that methylphenidate is a pretty harsh stimulant that causes lots of anxiety. if you are looking for an energy boost I in no way recommend snorting it as you will get a shorter duration, more intense effect, and a harder crash. Also the crash is pretty soul crushing.

Definately don't snort Ritalin if you want, need it for therapeutic purposed, if theyre IR pills, just swallow them, best way to not end up chasing a mediocre (depending on the person, and compared to many other stims) high.

IR ritalin doesn't last long, maybe 3-4 hours... start with 10mg, per dose, try to space out the doses correctly (wake up dose, before lunch dose, mid afternoon dose, and possibly a last 10mg's...

Ritalin crash, is pretty nasty, some handle it better than others (you opiate pain meds and benzos mayy help, a bit or a lot for this)

Strangely, ritalin seems to calm my anxiety, making me take, need less benzos throughout the day, but i need to compensate if i want to sleep... i'm on 50mg ritalin ER/day

Some prefer Ritalin, to amps for therapeutic use depends...

Be safe!

Have you looked into the likely far more safe alternative, for focus and attention, and to a lesser extent lethargy...??? wiki "Modafinil" if you are not familiar with the substance...

Well I just got done reading some posts over in the Case Studies thread, about a couple of people who needed lung transplants after IVing Methylphenidate because of all the talc the pills contain, and apparently snorting these little bastards can do the same thing to your lungs in the long run, so I will be taking them orally for sure if I decide to try them out. I have a Drs appointment today, and I'm going to discuss the research and my problems with him and see what he says. I'll post back later with the results
