Methylphenidate reverses neurotoxicity from meth/amphetamines?

No one can even shed me some light on this? no opinions at all? no one knows what to think of this? Let me start by saying that I think addiction comes from taking the same drug everytime and that drug gets carved into your brain deep since its the same drug. But if your switching off between drugs every other day then what?
 
Generally addiction from these substances comes from the dopamine reward pathway, as dopamine is released after sex and other rewarding situations.
That's a very black and white version but is generally accepted, as well the euphoric feeling plays a huge roll but the honeymoon stage doesn't last forever, but addiction can last long after this phase is over.
I can't see why it would reverse neurotoxicity, as if the mechanisms of action are identical to MDMA and SSRIs then they both work on similar principles.
One increases dopamine via release, and the other by preventing the reuptake of dopamine into the presynaptic cell causing an increased amount in the synaptic cleft, so either way they are causing an increased amount of dopamine to bind to the receptor.
And again, if the mechanisms of action are the same as serotonin which are what I'm more familiar with, the dopamine reuptake inhibitor will limit the amount of presynaptic dopamine, rendering the releasers such as meth and speed unable to dump large amounts of dopamine.
In this way it may be neuroprotective in that it wouldn't allow these substances to dump and overload the receptors.
Just speculation, I guess I should have read the articles before chiming in
 
It appears to me that treatment with a dopamine reuptake inhibitor blocks the reuptake of oxidative (damaging) metabolites into dopaminergic neurons. Since the neurons health is preserved with this treatment long term dopaminergic deficits will be mitigated.
 
I suppose, but on a more practical note I don't think you are going to be doing your mind and body any favours by mixing Ritalin with your amphetamines.

This is probably similar logic to "SSRIs block MDMA neurotoxicity". Yes, inasmuch that they also block the *effects* of MDMA as well. If MDMA cannot produce effects, then no toxicity, of course. I don't think I've heard much concrete evidence that SSRI postloading does anyone any good though.
 
I don't think metylphenidate alone will reduce the neurotoxicity of methamphetamine, as itself also neurotoxic. The article discuss about the synaptic dopamine transporters health after heavy dosage of methamphetamine. As expected it will be less effected when combined with MP, but i don't think that equals that it is also helps neuroprotection. I believe it is better to use modafinil, memantine (NDMA blocker, voltage depended), antioxidants, piracetam to reduce the dopaminergic neurotoxicity. Also use least dosage works for you...

No, it isn't. You can demonstrate increased dendrite branching localized to the PFC (especially with administration to juveniles :X), but this is a marker of intense 'learning' (really, classical and operant conditioning) facilitated by high dopaminergic function.

Here is the article that discusses neurotoxicity for dopaminergic neurons at high dosages. I know there is also many articles about discussing neuroprotective effects of MPH but don't know which one true yet... To be safe side i think better to treat it like it does...
