Hello. SWIM has extracted some methylphenidate hcl from 10mg IR ritalin tablets. Binders were removed using cold PGA as a solvent (Everclear), and using coffee filters to remove the unwanted fillers. The PGA was then let to evaporate.
The plan is to add the methylphenidate hcl to a metered nasal spray bottle for convenience and to be discrete. However, a previous user here warned about dissolving in water:
The solution would be stored for multiple weeks or months before being completely used, so I would like to determine whether the water will ruin the drug. If so, would any of the following be better solvents?
Vegetable glycerin
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide)
MSM (dimethylsulfone)
Propylene glycol
With possible addition of a mild acid to modify the overall pH (to encourage esterification / prevent ester hydrolysis). Also perhaps a small concentration of benzyl alcohol if solubility needs to be improved.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area; I have limited chemistry background and no organic chemistry.
