i'm taking SJW.... would it be safe to experiment with methylone? even if it's safe, would the effects of methylone be diminished from the SJW?

Whoah there. Methylone is a serotonin releaser like MDMA, although something like only a third as potent. Saint John's Wort is like a herbal SSRI with other effects on the brain like glutamate and GABA. What does this all mean? It's probably not safe to mix the two, it could result in a serotonin syndrome if the doses for either one are just a little too high. Check out this interaction chart at Wikipedia:

If you're able to taper off your SJW without your symptoms coming back, than do that. The best thing would be to have some 5-HTP or tryptophan on hand for when you come down, and start back onto the SJW the next day or whenever you feel ready. Happy trails <3

cool, thanks for replying. but tell me, how long must i be off SJW for it to be safe?

PepperSocks pointed out to me in the social thread that it's not as dangerous of a combo as one might expect, but expect the effects from serotonin releasers to be diminished. Probably 12-24 hours is enough, it's only a precautionary measure but you'll also get a bit stronger of a roll as a result.

^ Bingo. SJW isn't much of an MAOI (not dangerous per se) but it is an SSRI which will block the site of methylone binding thus giving you a diminished experience ala pharm SSRI's and MDMA.

Funny thing is, this MAOI stuff is all over the place. If SJW is an MAOI and SSRI wouldn't it contraindicate itself?

Yeah you'd think so but alot of people are really adamant that it has SOME kind of action on MAO. I know it effects alot of systems in the body, and I suppose that it could potentiate a trip in some way... But how I'm not exactly sure, unless you had really low serotonin to begin with or something.

so if i cease SJW 24 hours before methylone, i shouldn't have a problem with methylone being weaker than it's supposed to due to SJW?

also, what about for AMT and 4-ho-emt... i plan to try these soon, and wonder what the same deal is with them and SJW.

Yeah 24 hours should be enough, although this source says 24-48 hours. (It's under "pharmacology") Use your judgement and taper accordingly:

It would be advisable to follow the same procedure with AMT, since it's kinda the same as SJW in that it has effects on serotonin and MAO-but we don't really know how much of what. Out of all the substances you list it probably has the biggest potential for interaction, but people have gotten away with alot more MAO abuse on AMT with things like mephedrone and been OK.

Assuming you meant 4-HO-MET there, which I'm not as familiar with as I am with other 4-substituted tryptamines... But it's not too much of a concern because it's likely more of a 5-HT agonist than anything. But you might still feel some diminished effects and less of a euphoric body buzz with the SJW.

From experience and perception of what's going on in my body I'd say AMT actually does have enough MAO inhibition to be careful about things.

I found whenever I ate cheese close to taking AMT the trip had far more body load and generally uncomfortable feelings.
