Methoxetamine Deaths?

So I came across this article this morning, here's an excerpt:

"A woman, 59, was found at a Leicester address on Saturday and a 32-year-old man in Melton Mowbray on Sunday.

Detectives say the deaths are not suspicious, but have confirmed one line of inquiry is the use of the drug methoxetamine.

Anyone who has bought the drug on the internet is being urged not to take it.

Det Insp Rob Widdowson, of Leicestershire Police, said: "We are investigating the circumstances leading to the deaths of these two people in order to prepare files for the coroner.
"

~Should we be concerned or is this more fear-mongering media hype? Does anyone in the UK have any more information on this story?

I'm seriously wondering if this "roflcoptr" site is selling cut MXE to fabricate deaths to justify banning it. Its too coincedental that deaths are starting just as soon as that site appears.

A police spokesman said it is believed both of them had thought they were taking another drug known as MCAT.
How much does a Methylone hardhead take in one go? Erowid lists 250 + mg as a heavy dose. Bad news for a Methoxetamine naive.

I wouldn't trust the police as far as I could kick them. With mephedrone they were claiming "This man died of a mephedrone overdose, this stuff must be banned" and it turned out he'd taken methadone.

Don't believe a word they say until the coroner gives the cause of death. The police will claim it was an mxe death simply if there's a bag of mxe in the house.

A thing I thought was interesting was the ages of those who were said to be dead: 59 and 32. Not the age demographic I think of when I think of who's using MXE.

I give MXE four months. That's how long it took between "meow meow"'s first appearance in the mail and its ban.

The whole situation here is strange. Not least because MXE has repeatedly shown itself to be surprisingly forgiving in terms of acute toxicity.

Perhaps they were bombing, maybe 400mg? When there was nothing after an hour they went for the same again. Bizzare that such a thing would happen in two unrelated cases in the space of a weekend though.

If you're going to have a popular legal dissociative, MXE isn't a bad choice. Ban that and watch the 3-Meo's go Mainstream.

^ This, but it even goes further than that, it doesn't even claim a link to the drug like many articles do, just says it's a line of enquiry. Unfortunately it does mean extra bad press.

This would probably be best suited for Drugs In The Media, and/or the main Methoxetamine thread, but I'll leave it out here for now to see if there are any developments on this story, as for all we know it could be discovered that they took a particular dose or combination, which might be able to aid our knowledge for harm reduction purposes.

Don't be surprised if the thread is moved in the near future :)

Eh, not necessarily... I fall in that age range and I first tried MXE cuz I heard it had PCP type qualities. I had a lot of fun with PCP back in the day.
Also, being able to obtain MXE from legal sources is great for us 'older folks' who no longer have many good connections for illegal goodies.
