So it seems that the majority of continued sober living uses some kind of 12 step program with some kind of god-like reliance. Does anyone have any other successful methods or support groups of staying sober?

Hey Mayhem and welcome to BL:)

Here is a great option to check out. SMART Recovery (Support Group information and discussion)

I use aspects from everything I have looked into.. things from the fellowships, smart, and many other sources. We as addicts often suffer from good bad thinking. We judge everything as good or bad, or it works or it does not.. this can cause us to drop very strong parts of different approaches because we use the black and white thinking and determine this will not work for me or this on not working.

Budaism has provided may strengths for me.. its not a religion or at least is a non theistic .. its more like an applied philosophy. there is no god involved. I would try and draw from as many places as you can and design and implement a personal recovery plan. exercise as well is very key for many people.

Varied Approaches to Addiction Recovery

I've heard good things about SMART, maybe i'll check them out. I HATE NA.

For me, suboxone did not work.
MMT programs seem to be working...... only problem is now i'm dealing with lots of new emotions, feelings, problems, remorse, sadness, etc etc and noone to talk to. I was numn while using dope or othr strong opioid shit/ benzos. I needto find someone going thru the same issues to talk to. I'm lately realizing that without opioids I want to use amp or coke more, partially because i work in a factory piece rate pay.

NA I didn't like. Judgmental people. Also they wont even consider than i can smoke pot, or use psychs. NO DRUGS EVAR!!!!!! Also i feel they change from spending all time thinking about doing drugs to thinking all the time about not doing drugs. theres more to my life than only thinking about staying off drugs.

some of my friends, recommend AA meetings for me, but personally i really don't know what happening on between AA's meetings. But considering the fact of some AA's members success on throwing away their AL addiction, or i can say, better try this one than nothing.

Seems like I have had a very different experience with NA that some others have on this thread. NA is a part of my life (and I am pretty involved in NA), not the whole of my life. As for being able to smoke pot, well NA is a program of complete abstinence , so its no going to get co-signed. That being said, you can show up high as fuck and will not be asked to leave. NA in and of itself is supposed to be non-judgemental and many members are, but like all things, some people are exceptions to the rule.

SMART has had good results, but it hasn't really ever taken off like I and others thought it would.

Give it a shot, go in with an open mind. Try NA as well.

SMART recovery meetings are good. Look in you local paper. Their should be tons of support groups, meditation classes, yoga you name it. NA,AA,CA are all important resources but they can fall short if you require help for a co-occurring disorder. I think it's important if you can try to seek out a non profit source hopefully covered by insurance that will help provide treatment on a community based level. In the state of AZ they have plenty of level 2 licensed treatment centers for serious problems with addiction. Getting group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and multi systemic therapy from a licensed professional can be really helpful on an IOP level. At my local non profit mental health provider they offer relapse prevention courses based on the Matrix Model. I have found this method to be very affective. Make sure the place is designed around an evidenced based curriculum. You can also see if you qualify for a peer support specialist who can help provide 1-1 help directly in the home. I have found this is very helpful for those suffering from feelings of isolation and depression.

the whole point of AA meeting is to help people remember that they prefer sobreity over to drug life. and a lot of people that have been sober a while go a lot because they want to help other people stay sober. i used to hate AA meetings but dont think wiillpower alone will keep me sober, as the addict mind will trick you into going back out. so for me, i will continue going to meetings to help me stay sober and to better my life.
