Does methcathinone (HCL) respond to a Marquis reagent? Is there any change with a standard EZ-test kit? Are there other ways of testing it (Chemically?)

But you should explain the situation prompting you to ask the question. The reason is because methcat is not something you're likely to ever see on the streets.

Are you testing Pills for 'cat? I make a random statement when I say that most of the methcat that's made is made by beginner cooks. It was big in indianna for a bit, that's the only reason it's illegal, AFAIK. Were it not for those 'cat freaks, it'd probly be in the same situation that Rchems and whatnot are in.

Basically the situation is this:
I have wanted to try cat for a quite long time and have finally found some "cat" on the street. I do not, however, trust that it is ACTUALLY cat. It appears the same as meth. It is shard/powder like and does not really have a smell. I don't want to take any before I know what's in it. Should it react to a marquis reactant kit?

i wouldnt bother with cat.
not only is it only slightly more potent than a mini-thin and as addicting as meth, if not more so, the 2,3, d-methcothinone doesnt sound like fun on the old noggin.

If I remember correctly, cat smells like almonds... well, at least it does during production. Can't remember if you can still smell that delightful ketone smell in the final product. Curious to hear of someone wanting cat over meth... Cat tends to be nothing more then a fairly speedy and fairly confusing way to spend a few hours. Seems to me like a really shitty attempt at something 4-MAR achieves well. Doesn't clear up the head like meth does. Anyway, if you reeeealy want to try cat, just make some! It's quick and easy, and requires NO controlled precursers. Just hit the net for the cook. Fun for the whole family!

Look folks, CAT SUCKS! Luckily it's so easy to make a 14 y/o could do it (it happened) .. but it's shit, you need like 1/4g to get off...
Also, thefinished product doesn't smell like almonds, if you have washed it then it will have littleor no smell..
