Ive done a few searches on this topic and didnt find much usfull info.
Ok, Ive been taking percocet 7.5's now for 5 months fathfuly. Im now in a pain program and the doc told me instead of using oxycontin for my long term pain, he wants to give me methadone pills to take me off the pain killers forever. Weird cause once im off im still gona have my stupid back pain so im kinda screwed now as far as gettin more scripts for pain. What sux is i take them for my pain but do abuse them(occationaly) cause i love the high. shhhhh. dont tell my doc though cause he dont have a clue. And dont say he does or i wouldnt be in the pain clinic, im there cause surgury isnt an option with my problem. I just didnt fugure on them wanting to wein me off forever.
Anyway my question is, compared to percocets how does methadone pills rate? If i do want a euphoric high any sugestions on what dosage to use? Im not sure ill even get enough to be abuseful with them though, since their trying to get me off anyhow, but was just curious.
Thx for any and all helpful info.

My boyfriend and I have tried Methadone once and i did 5 mg and felt great. My boyfriend had to do 10 mg to feel the way I did. Try a 2nd opinion, those perks are great!!! But I will have to say that if you want the real deal then try to get oxycontin. That is the bomb!!!!!!!!

yeah if your in pain , then go to another doctor.
worst comes to worst , there are illict narcotics out there just waiting to be bought

Man i just got some percs for a bad shoulder, and I dare say I like them more than oxycontin!
Yeah, I know it's the same chemical, but I think not having the time release really gives me the buzz that I love!
:) :) :)

Do NOT take methadone for pain treatment. I'm in rehab with 4 people who are there partially because they got screwed up taking methadone for pain.
It's HIGHLY addictive and the withdrawals are HORRIBLE. They are the worst withdrawals that you could ever go through. As a patient, you are more than entitled to ask for an alternative treatment and you are more than entitled to do some research and tell your doctor what you've found out. Simply tell him that you did some looking on the internet and read a lot of horror stories about methadone and you asked some people on a web page dedicated to chronic pain treatment and again heard bad things.
You should also note that one of the perks to having chronic pain is being able to get high. As soon as you build any tolerance, the methadone will not get you high at all and will block the effects of other opiates by flooding the receptors.
But really, even if you're not interested in getting high you should NOT take methadone for any reason.
I just reread your post and noticed something. He told you he wanted to get you off of painkillers forever? I suspect he knows you're abusing them or he is an idiot, because methadone is an opiate painkiller.
Remember, under no circumstances can your doctor force you to do anything. If he for whatever reason insist on methadone instead of anything else, tell him you will see someone else. One of the girls in my rehab group was even told by her doctor that methadone was one of the least addictive painkillers out there and not to worry.. it took her 3 months to ween off it and when she was first trying to stop 2 detox centers wouldn't even take her because she was on such a high dose they didn't think they could handle her. Methadone is bad news.
Also.. another thought.. some new chick heard stories about methadone shortly after she was put on it and then told the doctor she was no longer going to take it. The doctor played down the dangers and ended up putting her on fentanyl patches. Probably a low dose.. but hey! I just informed her last night exactly what fentanyl is. I couldn't believe the doctor told her how "safe" and "less addictive than oxycodone".. lol. It has apparently worked very well for her, though. She takes it as directed and doesn't abuse it. It's probably completely unrealistic that you'd get something nice like that because you're only on 7.5mgs of oxycodone.. but hey, more incentitive to get that dose jumpin'!

Thx soviet. I really do think that this "Pain Doc" is a little methadone scribing happy cause that shit is bad news from all that i have heard too. plus the pain doc is a diff guy than my reg. back doc, and he really dont know that i occationally abuse the percs, i do and had been getting about 80 of them a month and he just didnt want me to be taking oxycodone with tylenol for long term pain treatment. he in fact mentioned oxy c. but the pain doc. dont perscribe that, so i have done some asking around and just found a doc who does, and i am sceduled (cant spell) to see him next week :)
so now i suppose ill have some methadone to just play around with, or is it better i just shit can it. lol thx again.

Actually, Methadone might be the only way to get off the Percosets when it comes to withdrawals. Sure Methadone withdrawals are awful, but obviously his doctor knows this. He would probably only perscribe enough for a little while, and have him taper off, much like a detox. Methadone definitly won't get you "high" like Percoset, but you sure won't be sick.

thats all great and stuff dank, and im sure the methadone works just fine to end the percs, BUT im not needing that right now, im in the position were i need a long term pain killer, not none at all, the that being the reason why im now in pursuit of a doc who can help me instead of basicly making me live with my back pain everyday.
thx everone for you help on this topic.
P.S. i think i would rather go through oxcycodone withdrawl than a methadone withdrawl, at least from all that ive heard from peoples testamonies.

You said the pain doc doesn't prescribe oc's? Why? I'm really quite ignorant about all this but it seems strange to have a pain doc that won't prescribe oc's...

In my opinion Methadone is a trashy high. All it does is take the edge off & trash you. You get know euphorich feeling from it. Nothing beats Percs except OC's. If your pain is as bad as it sounds I would switch doctors. You definitely don't want to be on Methadone...

Actually, Methadone might be the only way to get off the Percosets when it comes to withdrawals.
lol.. no no no no no!
You're coming from the right place, but you have to realize that Percocets are only 5mgs of oxycodone along with 325mgs of APAP. You cannot take enough Percocet to become seriously physically addicted. You definantly can become addicted.. but the withdrawals are going to be fairly mild.. minor depression, bad mood, not feeling all that good for a few days. But that's about it.
If you could actually take enough Percocet to develop a serious physical addiction, you'd probably need a liver transplant to boot.
Sure Methadone withdrawals are awful, but obviously his doctor knows this.
No.. don't ever assume this. ALWAYS do outside research when it comes to a doctor prescribing medication. There really are a lot of stupid doctors out there that a) don't know what the fuck they're talking about b) are paid to promote certain drugs by drug companies c) won't prescribe certain medications because of media hype rather than what's really best for the patient.
I'll tell you one quick story as an example. My father had a liver disease. His first doctor put him on Vicodin. Vicodin of course contains APAP which harms your liver. He switched doctors. The next doctor was shocked to find that he was prescribed a medication that contained APAP. So no fucking shit the doctor prescribed him Percocet. I argued with my dad about this for years and he would never once look at the ingrediants because he believed I was an idiot and that his doctor knew what he was doing. Well, after he got his liver transplant his next new doctor was shocked to find that he was on Percocet and switched him to OxyContin. But the doctor didn't consider that he could have taken Oxy-IR instead and not have to needlessly double his dosage.
Doctors are some of the most retarded people on earth. And not only do they suck at prescribing medication, they also suck at even finding an illness. If you have a serious problem, it generally takes a good 10 visits at the very least before they figure it out.. in the meantime they'll keep telling you everything checks out fine and it's all in your head.
He would probably only perscribe enough for a little while, and have him taper off, much like a detox.
It sounds like he's putting him on methadone to treat the chronic pain. It's actually not uncommon these days for methadone to be prescribed for that reason.
..
Also, the fact that your pain doc won't prescribe OxyContin just proves his stupidity. It's not anymore addictive than any other opiate, and you could get something like MSContin which is incredibly similar in that it's a huge dose of a powerful opiate. The doc is just reacting to media hype instead of what's actually in the best interest of the patient. A lot of people really do best with OxyContin and don't abuse it.

I just gotta say that you are fucking dead-on 100% with the above. Doctors are trained monkeys for the most part. Symptom A means Cause B. It's all memorization. Sure, I've had some talented doctors, but for the most part, I have taken to educating MYSELF about any illness I have had. I also tend to see docs at university hospitals. Medical knowledge changes so fast. I had to have surgery for a crushed finger and the first doc wanted to use a technique that had fallen out of favor about a decade prior. I got a bad feeling from him and went to a different specialist- he was HORRIFIED that the previous doc had suggested the surgery he did. "Do you want to ever use your finger again?" Uh... that'd be a yes, "then don't do that procedure." Right-O.
And, what is the deal with methadone for pain management these days? Ugh! The withdrawls from that shit make everything PALE in comparison. Fucked up.

Well, this is just my opinion, but if you are being prescribed methadone (tradename Dolophine) for pain, you might have more leverage with other doctors when you try to get something more abusable. Most doctors DO know that methadone is only prescribed for severe pain whereas Percs are given somewhat more leniently.
So do some research, find a new doctor, and convince him that OC or any other C-II opioid would be more appropriate for your condition (as opposed to Methadone, hell they give that to HEROIN ADDITCS after all ;) ).

"fuck the doc -- get yourself some heroin" .. I dunna, my mind is slightly boggled here... the quality of the posts in here has just disappeared.. not diminished, but TOTALLY WENT BYE-BYE .. ok, I had to hit curve-balls when I first stepped up to bat, that is to say, unless I wanted balls flying at my mouth I had to learn to hit, and I was more of a mathalete then athletics specimen... still..
You seem to be doing better then many - if not MOST people... honestly man, you got yerself a hookup for Percocet and I would guess you're still fresh in the years .. you NEVER say "fuck the doc" .. no,you work with your doctor, mold him and shape him into the prescribing machine you so desire.. for the first 10 years of theuir medicall life they were molded, shapped, sculpted and WORKED by EVERYONE .. the first thing that happened is that they were broke down, then dumped upon, then finally reebuit ..
Ok, so yer doc suggests methadone for yer chronic pain - yeah, go ahead and look a bit shocked.. "methadone? Thats the stuff they give heroin addicts, right? Does that work for pain too?" - Don't worry, it's a fairly common reaction.. we used to get it all the time in the pharmacy .. of course you're interested in having you "pain" taken care of FIRST and THEN you want to get high, so, take it with a smile and tell him you're hoping for wonderfull things! .. you can go ahead and fill this scriopt as methadone can REALLY come in handy - but don't take it unless you're currious... trust me, while some people claim you will GETT MAD FUXED UP!!!!!111 I find that you get a hint of warmth, withdrawals will be halted, and thats about it.. oh yeah, it works for pain too .. anyway, ok, you return to your doctor for yer scheduled follow-up, well, this is where you report that the meidcation works but, well, it' doesn't really work .. no it's time to put on one hell of an act.. you have to be ready with side effects - hell, methadone certinly has a number of SIDE EFFECTS that you can complain of.. of, it's EASY, you just kinda bullshit being alergic to codeine or something - right? WRONG! What about Demerol? Thats a synthetic opoiod so SURELY you could make up a story about how that rubbed you the wrong way and that will get you on your right track... ya think? NO, HELL FUCK NO! They had a shot .. now does this seem to complicated? Confusing? WEl...
