Opioids Methadone tolerance - how long to go down?

I've been using methadone recreationally for a couple of years - usually once or twice a month. When I started 30mg would knock me on my arse but now even 400mg just gives me a mild buzz even when I mix it with alcohol. Question is this - if I stop taking methadone completely how long will it take for my tolerance to go down?

If you can take 400mg with booze and not fall out, prepare for some nasty withdrawals when you decide to stop. Probably want to do a taper.

They said only once or twice a month... which makes the whole thing pretty odd

Thanks for the advice. Will take note. Don't think i made it clear though - because I don't use regularly I don't get withdrawals. It's not that odd.

Yeah 400 mg tolerance... only use once or twice a month... nothin odd there lol

Sounds to me your shit is getting watered down, 400mg of methadone is not something you can just take and brush off like you didn't even know you took it... especially if you're not a super chronic high dose opioid abuser. In fact 400mg of methadone is more than enough to kill someone or at least render them fucked up for many days (methadone has a long half life).

as someone who's been on methadone for pain for the last 10 years (180mg/day). I'm fairly sure if your an occasional user and 400mg (enough to kill at least half a dozen opiate naive individuals) doesn't even give you a buzz then it's watered down.

That's just a huge amount

You can totally get a huge tolerance without a physical dependency- but my experience is you needa be chipping pretty seriously to get much of a tolerance...By which I mean using 2-3 days a week (which is abig part of why people rarely chip with 'done) with 1-3 day breaks, the occasional 5-10 days clean with an equal number of 2-7 day binges that result in minor 'walking' withdrawal.

I'm with the others- it sounds like your shit is getting watered down hardcore. 400mg is a serious junkie dose- that's the sort of dose I'd take, but I am a junkie and have one of the highest tolerances of the people I know...So something isn't right. Either you're downplaying your use, the drugs are cut to hell or you're some kind of freakatron.

If they're pills or you're 100% sure it's not being watered-down then you must have a fairly high baseline tolerance (which isn't unheard of- for every person who's allergic there's a hardhead) and/or a large bodymass. It shouldn't take more than a month to significantly reduce your tolerance, maybe three to get it as low as it's gonna go.

EDIT: Maybe you have the dose wrong- does your country have multiple concentrations of methadone solution on the market? Maybe you use to get 20mg/1ml stuff while now you're getting 5mg/ml stuff- so say you use to get 20mg/ml 20ml would be 400mg, but now you're getting 5mg/ml so 20ml is a far more reasonable 100mg...I mean, that'd be totally possible where I'm from.

As far as HR: you might not want to go take 400 mg from another source (based on the info we have here) until you figure out what's going on.

I agree on the huge tolerance being possible while chipping. I suffer from this problem, which is why I do maintenance...but 400 mg? That's arguably equivalent to 4 grams of morphine. We all know these conversions are more than questionable, especially regarding long Half-Life opiods...but just to put it in perspective. I mean c'mon 400 mg only one or two times a month...while not impossible i guess - yes very ODD, where we began.
