Hey guys. Sorry if this was addressed somewhere. I did a search and couldn't really find the answer I was looking for so I figured I'd start a thread.

Yesterday I had taken 5mg of methadone (first time i ever had methadone ever) and iv'd some h. Today I did some more h. Now on hand I have 5mg of methadone and some Suboxone. I was wondering what I should take the 'done or the Suboxone. Also if I took the methadone first how long after that would it be okay to take the Suboxone? Like wait til full blown wd or is mild/ moderate okay?
Thanks everyone

DO NOT take the suboxone. You will go into very bad withdrawals with that methadone in your system.

You need to wait 12-24 hours minimum to be absolutely safe about avoiding precipitated withdrawal when using opioids with a normal half life (heroin, oxy, etc. etc.). With methadone you need to wait 24-48 hours before for you can safely take you suboxone, given it's longer half life.

Since you already have heroin in you system, take the methadone if you wanna get higher and wait till you absolutely need to to use the suboxone (waiting enough time as said). Or you can save you methadone to get high another day and use suboxone.

If you don't have a tolerance to suboxone and are just using it to stay well inbetween uses, start with a very small amount - 2mg is ideal. You can always take more.

Do you plan to do anything special (detox, taper, etc. etc.) with your methadone and suboxone, or you just have it on hand and want to use it safely and get high and all?

When it comes to taking suboxone, the longer you wait the better off you'll be and the more you'll get out of the suboxone. The timing I posted are very general btw. Sometimes I only had to wait 6hrs after doing heroin to take suboxone safely, but I don't recommend it, because other times I'd have to wait 24hrs+. The best way to figure out if you will avoid p/w is to wait and dose once you're in full blown w/d. But time guidelines I mentioned are a good standard benchmark that apply to the vast majority.

And also, when it comes to suboxone, less is more. The stuff is extremely potent. You can always take more, so start slow and work your way up.

Be safe and enjoy!

Hey uhm, mods? Can you tell me if what I said was wrong?

Thanks.

OP, go here and read what others who have actually taken methadone have to say about this.

http://www.drugs.com/answers/can-i-take-suboxone-and-methadone-in-the-same-day-60628.html

All these people are saying if you take it before you are in severe withdrawals, you will get very very sick.

"You need to be in fairly signifigant withdrawls before you take the suboxone. At least 3 days. If you have been taking methadone for a long time then you probably won't start to feel really bad for until day 5. If you take the suboxone before you're feeling really bad then it will put you into withdrawls like you won't believe. So wait as long as possible then take 4mgs... Dave"

Yeah I usually iv like .5-1.5 mg Suboxone so I conserve it but only have like 6 mg left. Like I said I've only taken methadone 1 time and that was yesterday and it was only 5mg and I have 5mg left of that. I just need a break from opiates for a little I think. If I took the methadone now and I did h about 5-6 hrs ago would I get higher?

Well your case is very unusual. I wasn't telling you not to take the suboxone at all. All I said was wait a while just to be safe.

If you miscalculate this, you will go into severe withdrawals and get very very sick. Just read through what I sent you before making your decision.

Methadone and Suboxone do not mix well.

Oh I know you weren't saying that lol so il just wait til I'm pretty sick then. I know when I go from dope to sub I can get away with taking it when I just like start to get the sweats and chills so il wait til I'm worse than that. Pwds scare the hell out of me. That's what I was wondering. As I said I have no experience with methadone but plenty with heroin and Suboxone and oxy

This is only true for people on MMT or who take methadone daily for pain management. The OP has taken a low dosage of methadone a single time. I agree, definately wait 24 hours, but 3 days is completely unnecesairy.

My motto is, "Better to be safe than sorry."

I'm sorry, but everyone's body chemistry is different. None of us here know exactly how long she should wait. My advice? She should wait the longest possible time before taking the suboxone.

No need to apologize, if you don't have any experience with the topic, all you have to go on is what you learn yourself from other resources.

@OP, MMT --> BMT is usually very difficult, but you've only taken methadone once, so you should be good to dose your buprenorphine as long as you have minimum of 24 hours between the two drugs. I would wait 36 hours just to be safe.
