Methadone Sweating and Tolerance Withdrawal

I have been on methadone for 10 months. I take 30 mg a day and it has been working well until my pain came back along with other symptoms. When i'm in hot weather I get excessive sweating, followed by feeling very cold because my skin is soaked with sweat. This is similar to how I would feel when I missed a dose. It is impossible for me to go outside now. I was also wondering if it is possible to get mild withdrawal symptoms from simply being on the same dose for too long.

Thanks

hello

Man the sweating and cold chills when your outside sure sounds like one of the WD symptoms methadone gives ya, along with many many more when you decide to stop taking them. To answer your last question, methadone is just like any other drug, the patient will build a tolerance... I strongly suggest that you DO NOT NEED TO UP YOUR DOSE!!!!! 30mg a day is a pretty good dose and just be careful methadone is very addictive!! Just try to stay on your normal dose cause the WD from methadone is HELL!!!!!

yeah, just being on the same dose for a while will naturally become tolerant to it and therefore "withdraw" at some stage due to tolerance.....

Get a script for tagamet (cimetidine) and the done will last a lot longer. works for me. but dont trust my word, google it and see for yourself! also if your using benzos which many done users do, the withdrawals often get confused with one another....

Does anyone know approximately how long it would take someone to build up a tolerance to the point where they feel withdrawal symptoms? My doctor says i'm at my "max dose" and refuses to raise my dosage. I don't think my benzo is causing this because it is still working fine. I'm also still looking into tagamet.

Ask for Clonidine, that's what my methadone doctor scripted me after I complained of excessive sweating and it does work well but you may have to get used to it at first as it can cause you to feel fatigued and lightheaded.

I'm planning on asking my doctor about clondine and tagamet. When you sweat excessively do you get cold after from being drenched with sweat? I find that even if a breeze goes by the cold is unbearable. Also have you had sweating since you first started on methadone?

Yes if I'm drenched in sweat and there's a cold breeze I get the jitters. And yes I sweat like a pig ever since I've started the methadone program. With little exertion I would start to sweat really badly especially around the forehead area. But Clonidine really helped and it also helps me sleep at night as it acts as a mild sedative.

both opiate withdrawals, and methadone (mainly after tolerance developed) make me sweat tons

clonidine is usually what is prescribed for sweating

it doesn't work that great for me, and i don't want to "get used to it" because i get a little rebound from it if i use more than a couple times (faster HRate, stimulation; particularly during w/d or taper; and it doesn't seem to last very long or be that effective (especially when weighing its efficacy in treating sweating VS its side effects) it makes me excessively fatigued/tired

ive read that it can accelerate the development of tolerance. the brain adapts quicker if you are depressing the nervous system more. the circulatory system is apparently too important to allow large changes

Tolerance is the enemy. =D

It could just be a side effect of the 'done - or your doc has relegated you to a see-saw of perpetual withdrawel and re-dosing.

If this for pain management I could think of a few better substances (but doc knows best right) so if this is the choice you are a lifer and the dose seems rather low...it is considered one of the lower starting doses for addiction (for pain purposes they tend to keep people in the lower dosages but then they are ignoring the tolerance issues) and slowly they should up it (not advocating it-think it is a useless drug but maybe it is good for pain but then why not just stick you on a good opiate/s?).

Feeling this is a normal side-effect (for example I sweat like a waterfall on this or on good quality H with low tolerance the same) -however everyone is diff...personally, for addiction or pain; there are much better drugs out there.

I took my pill early today and went out for a walk in the summer heat and I didn't get sweating problems. I hope a simple dosage raise can solve the problem. I take methadone for pain and it seems to work the best for me, but maybe there are better drugs out there. I haven't explored that much with pain medication. Clondine might turn out to be too much to handle. Tolerance really does suck :!

one of the side effects with methadone is sweating, its just a side effect, ive had the same thing, but it didnt bother me, cuz u still feel great on methadone. Then again, that was like 90mg

Don't start the Clonidine if you can help it. It can leave you with a very nasty withdrawal syndrome (medically dangerous) if your body gets used to it.

Better to just sweat it out and have a small towel in your pocket.

Now that you say that, i'm rethinking getting dependent on another drug.

I understand that 10 months of sweating can be extremely annoying, but from first hand experience I can tell you that Clonidine is not something you wanna be on just because you're sweating because other than the withdrawal it can cause, it causes some nasty side effects as well. So basically you're taking a drug for a side effect and getting a few new side effects to deal with. Not worth it imo.

The sweating is actually a new side effect. I suspect it's because my dose is too low because I feel the same way whenever I miss a dose. Does that make sense? Anyways you're right, it doesn't make sense at all to treat a side effect with a another drug.

How many times a day do you take methadone? 2?

Sorry man, I must have missed your post by accident. I take 10mg 3 times a day. Do you think it would be better to take 15mg 2 times a day? Methadone is a long acting drug and it seems reasonable, but i'm not sure.

Just wanted to say thanks! You have been alot of help. :)

i sweat so much more when the methadone ran out and i started feeling a bit sick

i'd probably stick to 3 but you could try it and see

not necessarily dangerous since it'd build up to an equilibrium level in the bloodstream. you'd just have to be more cautious with dose changes and give them some time
