I just started on 30 mg meth a week and a half ago, and got bumped up to 50 a few days ago. It works fairly well for beating w/d but I find that whenever I wake up in the morning, I feel somewhat sick and lethargic, not even feeling like walking the 5 min to my pharm to get my next dose. Does this mean my dose is too low, or that I metabolize too quickly?

Also, I've heard that moving up will likely block the effects of other opes if I ever do them. I don't know what to do because obviously this is both good and bad. I really need to stop using and save my money while not feeling like death, but at the same time the thought of never getting that buzz again is actually very depressing. At this point, I do feel a buzz about an hour to 2 hours after taking my dose but it's fairly weak (about the same as coming up on mild to moderate seed tea). Should I raise my dose?

How do you feel during the day? If you feel tired, sleepy, then I wouldn't increase your dose.

I've been in the same boat as you and I always stayed at the lower end of the spectrum because I didn't want to be on methadone my whole life.

Nah I feel pretty good after taking my dose, but around 20 hours later withdrawal (though not severe) begins. I went on meth voluntarily though, after 6 years of hell and being sick so often I wanted to kill myself so being on a blocking dose is probably a smart idea. If I stay where I am and still chip, that would totally defeat the purpose. It's just so hard to come to terms with not being able to ever get high again. Also I DO feel like shit in the am.

You can have the clinic do a blood test for levels (they draw blood right before you dose after you have dosed at the same time for the previous three days). Then they can tell if you are metabolizing it to the point you need more...
I too am trying to stay low this time. But I was on 40 n same way I was feeling crappy around 22hrs in...went up to 60 n am ok now. I can't go more than 26 hrs or so , so I have to dose pretty consistently day to day. But I don't really want to increase either...

Give it a good 2 weeks before deciding on increasing the dose. What you are experiencing May just be an opioid hangover from the high dose of opioids in your system. I know I got that with high doses of suboxone and I know it wasn't withdrawal because when I waited through it I wouldn't really start feeling withdrawals for a good 48 hours after my last dose.

you would probably be better off increasing your dose if you feel you need to
esp if what has you unsure is the inability to get hi..
when i was on a 30 mg dose of methadone it still blocked my high.. it would take a good three to 4 days of me not dosing to be able to really feel any other opiate.
IMO ur not going to be able to catch a buzz on the 30 mgs anyways.. i didnt feel anything at all and wasted a bunch of money trying to..

You need to figure out if the effects you are having are from withdrawal, or from being on too much methadone. It's a very different feeling. Being sick from withdrawal, chills, lethargic, etc.. feels much different than the sweating and being tired all the time from being on too much methadone.

As far as getting on a blocking dose, it really is recommended. First of all, you're clearly still having cravings to use, which is a sign you are not on a high enough dose. And furthermore, the mental aspect of knowing you can't get high anyway because the methadone will block, helps a lot in staying sober and getting out of that mindset.

You don't have to get on an outrageous dose of methadone. Often times, just an extra 10-20mg's makes a giant difference and can literally mean the difference between being successful in the program and not.

Look my advice is this.. if you're going to be on methadone anyway, you mine as well just get yourself on the right dose otherwise it is pointless. If you taper slowly and correctly, you can come down off of even very high doses with minimal withdrawal discomfort.

Most clinics maintenance dose is around 80-100mg's. That is where the majority of addicts get the largest benefit from methadone with the least amount of side effects.

I'll give you a quick example just from me personally in regards to upping your dose. I was on 85mg's for a few weeks and I noticed by the night time and early morning, I started getting cold sweats, watery eyes, etc. Withdrawal symptoms. I was also still having strong cravings for dope. I went up 10mg's to 95 and it was a night and day difference. No more feeling sick at night and the cravings reduced significantly. So, like I said, sometimes all it takes is a little extra to get you over that hump.
