I have been on methadone for exactly seven days. today I took 55mgs and tomorrow I will take 60mgs. I'm moving up 5mgs every day. My question is at what dose (mgs) will I actually begin to get real relief for a substantial period of time. By the way I am going to a clinic. Thanks to anyone who has some info on this topic.

I have a very high opiate/opiod tolerance. I was smoking 2 0r 3 10 mg/ 100mcg hour fentanyl patches before I started the clinic last week. My tolerance is quit high. I was also taking 3 or 4 80mg oxys a day if I was out of patches. The methadone so far has really done nothing, especially not given me a buzz. which a buzz is not what I'm looking for. I'm trying to quit my addiction. I just want the methadone to " hold me" for an entire day. so will someone please answer my original question without asking another question. thanks

OD has a dose equivalincy chart, if you know how much of another presription opiod it takes for you to feel OK just see how much methadone is equal to that.

noone will actually be able to answer your question with and exact answer. it would be just a guess as to when you get relief. but at the dose you are at now you must be getting something out of it for you never mention you was in wd. you and only you will be able to know when you are at a good dose for day. i didnt get relief allday till i got to 90mgs a day. i was using around 5 80mgs oc's a day iv. or 1 100mcg fent patch and 1 50mcg fent patch iv a day

I used to shoot 2 grams of black tar heroin a day, minimum.
I took the gray hound bus to Iowa, i was in AZ.
Stayed in a small town with around 60 people(Plano, Iowa)
and W/D'ed my nuts off for about 3 or 4 days.
Didn't sleep/eat right for at least another 2 weeks after that.
But then i was done, feeling back to at least 75-80% of normal.
My brother got off dope by going to the methadone clinic,
and like they are doing you they seemingly encouraged him to raise his dose.
It took him a year and 5 months to get off the clinic.
Not to menchan the cost of it, weekly fees, gas or bus pus costs, time.

I don't know, personally I'd just prefer toughing it out,
although i did have a good support structure while i was Detoxing
which i think is definitely integral if you go this way because for the first few days
i was trying to pick the best branch on the tree out front to hang myself from.

All in all though 3 weeks i don't think is too bad compared to the long term costs
in time, money, sleep(at least if u live where i do, clinics close at 10:00 am), dependency (your tied to town, unless you got privileges.AKA no vacations ect)

Just my two cents on the matter,

Good luck to all trying to get off opiates, either way,

well, now I'm at 90mgs and I'm still going up. I know its hard to get off of and it takes a while, but its worth it to me. I have not done anything productive in the past year. In the past two weeks since I have started the clinic, I started a great job at a restaurant bringing home around 750 bucks a weeks in cash. I paid 350 dollars a few days ago to get my license. I am having my car worked on. And I'm about to register for school. I have gotten on a decent schedule of getting up early and going to bed early. So in two weeks methadone has allowed me the freedom to finally begin to get my shit together and start doing something with my life. It has changed my life for the best, and its a miracle to me.

At my clinic they let you have take home doses. you get 2 take home doses for every 2 months you pass your drug tests. so basically after 9 months or so of passing your drug tests you only have to go to the clinic once a week and you get your doses for the whole week. That is what my counselor explained to me and every monday everyone comes in with their lock boxes and loads up. So after a while I will not be tied down to the clinic and not be able to go and do things in fear of missing a dose. Also, my counselor told me that if you have plans to go on a vacation that they can "accommodate" you for that. This clinic wants you to live your life to the fullest. And even if you fail a drug test and you are getting take home doses, you go on probation for a few weeks and if you pass you get your take homes back.

The people here really do care and are very nice. I just got extremely lucky. I have heard some horror stories about some clinics though. This clinic does encourage you to raise your dose if you feel it is needed. They also are very lax on taking high doses. I know I saw at least a few people on doses over 200mgs. I think that I am going to a great clinic. If this stuff is common please let me know, because I have only been going for a little over two weeks.

I appreciate everyone's input.
