Methadone maintenance. Saves lives or Not

I have been on methadone maintenace 4 about 12 years , without it i would not be alive. I am aware that people think it is evil and just a substitute for Heroin. In the uk we don't have access 2 oxycontin and many of the synthetic opiods that are availible in the usa and Canada. What makes methadone any different to these other synthetic opiods?

stigma bro, it's that simple. Say heroin out loud in a room and watch peoples face change. Methadone gets a lot of heat because of the fact it is simply an incredibly powerful opiate - a lot of people cannot see the good side to substitution into a legal opiate that can allow you freedom to live your life. Do not let these people bring you down - they are the same ones that ask, "why can't you just quit" - they look at addiction as a weakness, not a disease. Keep your head up and surround yourself with people who are both educated and open minded.
