^ I agree. I became addicted to opiates due to a condition that doctors diagnosed as depression even though anti-depressants did not help. I always felt very emotionless and "flat." On heroin I would cry for no reason... and laugh or get mad. I don't think it was a bad thing either.
It doesn't sound like the OP wants to quit. It sounds like they tried methadone because they wanted to still use and get high but have it be legal and with no consequences. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Methadone will keep you well and functional but after a month or two you will not feel it.. which is why it's very important that you're in counseling and actively working on getting better. You need to find out why you started using in the first place and really work on those issues. And I strongly advise against tapering unless you're tapering because you want to be 100% sober, NOT because you want to use. The reason clinics get you up to 60-80mg is so the methadone blocks other opiates in case of relapse.
OP, just be honest with yourself.. you're not tapering off methadone because you want to travel or because methadone "isn't right." You're tapering because you can't get high of your methadone and you want to use.
