Do clinics normally increase patient doses by 5mg or 10mg at a time?

What is the average dose others get to within 2-3 months?

Also something I learned today at my clinic was:

That my clinic checks cash coming in for traces of drugs.

My counselor told me that my $10 bill i used had traces of cocaine on it.
I have no idea how because i don't use coke and i got the change
from a gas station.

I just thought that was funny when brought up.

Hi. Where are you from? The world is vast and rules are different depending on where you live.

As for the cash checks, I wouldn't worry, as 95% or all american banknotes do contain trace amounts of cocaine and other drugs on them.

edit: sorry, didnt see your location.

It completely depends where you live and the specific clinic and doctor. Things like this totally vary. Can you ask your clinic what the protocol is for that kind of thing?

Also I HIGHLY doubt that your methadone clinic tests the money for drugs. Maybe they just saw some powder residue on the bill? Or, it could have possibly been a trick to see what your reaction was. According to a study done, 90% of paper money in the United States has traces of cocaine on it. If they bother you about it, show them that statistic. (Here's a Snopes article about how that cocaine gets there)

EDIT: ninja'd by loulou :)

something like 90 of 5$ bills have trace amounts of cocaine on them in the UK, more in italy and spain (obviously when it was in pounds sterling and lira) so i would imagine its similar in the US... but it should only really raise an alert if there is a large trace of cocaine (or other drug)

as for increase in dosage, and the dosage you get to within 2-3 months, it depends on your doctor, and your habit... if you have a large habit, and a strong opiate like hydro/oxymorphone, oxycontin, heroin and morphine to name the most common they will increase by probably 10mg/ week, and you might go up to 120+mg of methadone, smaller habits, addictions to less powerfull opiates (hydrocodone, vicodin (allthough it contains oxy you can't take high dose coz of the APAP), tramadol, DHC, codeine) you will probably not go higher thn 60mg, of course this is all just speculation, and the way i've seen things go down.... it would be plain stupid to develope a huge methadone habit to replace a tram or codeine habit...

What a ridiculous waste of time to test your cash for drug traces. They cant be so stupid to not be aware that almost all money has traces of drugs on it. Start washing your cash and bring it to them wet. Let them test wet bills. Find on the internet one of the studies done that proves most money has traces of drugs on it, print it up and give it to them.
I would go to a different clinic if possible, yours sounds terrible.

I will find out about increase tomorrow morning myself. Also found out
they go up to 120mg max. This is in the US.

You guys are right about majority of us currency has traces of drugs on it.

but it was a big deal enough that they made a report regarding it with my response
about the issue on it and filed it.

The counselor basically said that because it was a state associated clinic and the nature
of the business that they checked all money for drugs and basically they only want
clean money coming in because of the state affiliation.

I still find that extremely hard to believe that they actually test the money for drugs. For one, it is totally pointless since the vast majority of money has traces of drugs on it, even if you get it freshly from the bank. And it says absolutely nothing about whether the bills were used to snort drugs, let alone used by you for that purpose, (or came from drug dealing if that's what you meant by "clean" money?). I have never heard of any other methadone clinic doing this. If it were me, I would ask to be present next time they tested the money, and I would also take them a copy of the research paper that found that 90% of paper money had traces of drugs on it. Actually, personally I would probably switch clinics if it was possible, but that's just me.
