I'm curious if anyone else who is a daily/regular user of meth has gained a significant amount of weight while using. I consider significant 25+ lbs. Myself, as well as almost every female I know in the 40s, 50s age range that use regularly have gained weight, not lost it. Any ideas why this happens?

Oh, I can relate to this!!! I used to take ephedra in excess...and this issue caused me to shoot up to 260 pounds... Now I don't even take a decongestant. It took seven years to get where I'm at now...so yeah, I can chime in and say carbs were a huge issue on uppers...

Research suggests the effects of methamphetamine can manifest differently in males and females, with distinct physiological and psychological profiles emerging in each sex. In a nutshell, meth has the potential to alter different genes in different sexes, at different times. Combine that aspect with the genetic shift seen in pre/post menpausal Women, and yeah, your body probably isn't going to respond to meth the way it once did.

The most appropriate reason would be hypothyroidism. Weight gain is a classic sign of slow (hypo) thyroid. You can restore normal thyroid function which restores energy levels and normal hormone levels - which will prevent weight gain and most of the symptoms commonly associated with menopause.

This is because the thyroid supports ovarian health and directly stimulates hormone synthesis. This is why thyroid-related symptoms are practically identical to menopause! This image shows what I mean:
