metaphor

under the assumption up was right
and down to wrong, left and right merely escipade
i ascended
flying away, i contemplated that maybe its heresay
a metaphor
a hoax
what i heard about the light
a lax interpretation of the uncalculated complexities hiding behind her lyric
of no consequence, i assured myself
so i proceeded...higher and higher towards the piercing bright
but with the light came heat
blistering heat
this uncompromising weight that burdened this ascension
awoke a discrete contemplation buried deep inside
not a morality conflict
not an opinion, charred to dust
but an intervention of mind and spirit
a realization
an enlightened pulse
a newfound purpose, abandon the up
abandon the down, direction is subjective
feeling empowered with this profound information
i decided to resurface
but throughout my transformation, it came to me that i had been decieved
and as i ascended
it became clear
there was no bright white light
the sun was heat, the sun was light
and had burnt me to ash while i was in search for something better

Great piece of poetry. The way in which it is constructed makes it an intriguing piece to read again and again, given its many-layered feel.

but throughout my transformation, it came to me that i had been decieved
and as i ascended
it became clear
there was no bright white light
the sun was heat, the sun was light
and had burnt me to ash while i was in search for something better

The way in which these words flow together, in a slightly off camber way, gives them an interesting feel when read out loud. I'd have to say this is my favourite section of the poem, but it was a hard choice.
