Has anyone out there been on antidepressants while taking mescaline??

I am on cymbalta and have never taken mescaline before, but am planning to. I have done shrooms plenty of times and I know that the experience is weakened by antidepressants. I have also done salvia 20times extract and I don't think anything wud weaken that. It wasn't good trips with salvia, rather scary but still valuable.

How do antidepressants affect the mescaline experience??

There must be at least one person out there who has take mescaline while on antidepressants

SSRIs work partly by downregulating serotonin receptors which means they generally dull the effects of psychedelics, as well as possibly changing qualitative effects.

The biggest issue though is the issue of tripping while depressed enough to require antidepressants. Psychedelics are very powerful drugs and tey can easily worsen preexisting conditions. It is generally advised not to use recreational drugs while taking psychiatric medication.

Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) basically negated the effects of very high dose of mescaline-containing cactus. (I say "high dose" based on the effects on others who consumed similar quantities of this particular specimen.) I started to come up but it quickly petered out, and a supplementary dose a few hours in produced no additional effects.

Salvia does not work on the 5-HT2A receptors like normal psychedelics do. I think by any standards it has more in common with dissociatives like DXM, Ketamine and the like than with psychedelics. As such it's not surprising that anti-depressants wouldn't affect it much/at all. :)

As for Mescaline though, expect the same as with Psilocybin Mushrooms - it'll almost certainly be weakened, but how much depends on the dosage you're taking, how long you've been taking the medication, and your individual reaction. You can go by your experiences with shrooms as a general guideline, and it's likely the effects will be reduced by a similar amount, but of course, don't let this make you dose way too high - it's better to come in with a lower dose and be underwhelmed and to work up than to take too much. :)

Since your question has been answered already and you haven't come back asking additional questions I'm going to close this now. However, if you do want to ask more, head on over to The Big & Dandy Medication/Supplement Interaction Thread and post your questions there!

Hope this helps! :)
