Merits of the club scene?

So I've never rolled at a club before and I was thinking of trying out to go see Above and Beyond at Pacha NYC in February (yeah, I know that's a long way off). To date, I've only done ecstasy three times, and each time I did it at a rave. I know part of the reason I have enjoyed those experiences so much is that I knew that 95% of the complete strangers around me were in the same state that I was if not higher, and I love the community of e-tarded ravers who are totally accepting and could give two shits about faults - psychological or physical.

I just want a heads up about what the club scene is about. I think I would trip out if I found myself surrounded in a club by selfish, drunken assholes who only care about getting laid. That's kind of my outsider's perspective of the club scene. I could be totally misinformed. I don't know

So what do I have to know/do in order to have a good time at a club? Or am I really just thinking too hard about it? Also does anyone have any tips about clubs or events to check out in NYC? I'm there til the end of the semester while I'm at school.

Thanks in advance for your help.

just depends on what kind of club you go to... i like going to the more grimey clubs where everybody is rolling... you might not get the hot "princess" type girls getting drunk... but there are still loads of babes at the grimey clubs too, and if theyre rolling too, you're more on the same level...

haha this is a golden question because the most obvious clubs to go to where you can guarantee loads of rollers is

GAY CLUBS

loud techno, love shared all around... even a few disco lights!

dooooooooooooooooo it

From my experience, clubs usually don't have a lot of people on drugs, unless there is a big act coming to play.

For example, in Denver where I live we have several clubs that bring through most of the top djs in the world. If you go on a night when it's just house djs remixing top 40 tunes, chances are drug use is going to be minimal. However, if you go on a Thursday or Saturday night when they have a world famous act spinning, people are generally rolling balls...

It depends on type of club...the commercial clubs are usually full of drunken stupid people and shity pop music. But underground clubs are totally different story. Most people are rolling / tripping balls and are generally more friendly. The audiosystems and music is there much better.
