Hi everyone,

I am currently on Mercaptopurine, and I think I will be getting infused with infliximab this week or the week after. I was planning on doing MDMA next Saturday. I have been searching about and I can't seem to find much info on this so I thought I would ask here; Are there any explicit dangers in combining these medicines with MDMA? I am aware that as these medicines already lower my immune system, a night of partying could lower it further and result in a cold, but I can't really see any other problems. Then again I am hardly a chemistry/pharmacology buff.

Cheers!

If you're prescribed those drugs, I'm more worried that your baseline body condition isn't up to a challenge like MDMA than I am about any drug-drug interactions!

6-Mercaptopurine is a blunt tool, whose job is to jam up the works of nucleic acid synthesis, in turn inhibiting cell division throughout the body. This takes its toll on all body tissues which rapidly proliferate, like the GI tract mucosa, the skin, and as you mentioned, the immune system (the entire bone marrow and therefore all blood cells, actually.) If you're one of those people who ends up with a chewed-up mouth or GI troubles when you roll, keep in mind these lesions may take a long time to heal on 6-MP.

Infliximab, by contrast, is a pretty sharp tool. Its actions are extremely tissue-specific, and it's generally a well-tolerated drug. It's also cutting-edge and extremely expensive. I'm not seeing any rationale for many drug-drug interactions with it, since it's basically just a preformed antibody.

Thank you for your reply mate. I am taking both of these drugs to close fistulas, my baseline body condition is otherwise reasonable! So basically my only real worry is that 6-MP may well increase the time it takes for my body to heal if it causes a flare in my crohn's disease?

^ That's my main concern. I've not read anything about Crohn's disease and MDMA, but keep in mind that increasing serotonin can cause diarrhea, as is the case in people who have carcinoid syndrome. Be careful.

Yeah mdma has given me diarrhea the day after, and without being too graphic lets just say I ruined a few pairs of boxers that day. I'll post back and let everyone know how well it goes, hopefully I can provide some sort of help to anyone else facing the same dilemma. Although i'm guessing the number of people with crohn's who are on inflix and 6-MC, and contemplating an MDMA sesh are few! I also have to keep to my promise to post up my experiences with various substances and their effect on my crohn's. Maybe if enough people post anecdotal we can contribute to some harm reduction. Thank you very much for your help, you've helped me a lot and i'm sure the one or two other people in the world who are in the same boat will appreciate it too!

A quick search for p450 interactions turned up nothing significant, not a big supporter of MDMA use but you should be fine as far as that goes.

Hello, I promised I would come back to report on how it went in case anyone else has a similar question in the future. I know one anecdotal report is hardly perfect harm reduction, but here goes. I wasn't on infliximab when I dropped because I managed to get the infusion pushed to the week after. The mercaptopurine hardly seemed to affect anything at all. The only slight difference that I noticed is that during the come up I felt like throwing up a bit, which usually never happens. This could have been because the MDMA was strong and I hadn't used for a while, or because mercaptopurine lists as one of it's side effects feeling sick and MDMA exacerbated it. I hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in a similar position to the one I was in. Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

I'm on 8-weekly doses of infliximab (four weeks since my last infusion so it's still in my system), and a daily dose of 50mg
6-mercaptopurine. I recently took a small amount of MDMA, just sat in at home watching a DVD with my boyfriend, to see if there was any bad reaction before going all-out and taking it on a night out.

I'd caught a cold that week, and had a slight cough and backache. The day after taking the MDMA, the backache was
absolutely awful, and I also had a fever and chills, mild abdominal pain, and felt very tired. In fact I got paranoid that I had
toxic megacolon. But all that might have happened anyway, it's impossible to tell. Next time I will make sure I'm feeling
more healthy before experimenting…
