Now I've read a few people saying don't combine these but the same people also say don't combine MDMA and an SSRI, however an SSRI just blocks the MDMA, a SNRI releases seretonin and norepinephrine as well via the 5-HT receptor (I think), if so would it not also block the seretonic effects of drugs like MDMA which mostly interact with the 5-HT receptor?

The few reports I read of people doing it said it has diminished effects but it still does work, can anyone confirm who has actually done it or knows the chemistry behind it? Prefer not the same generic "don't mix drugs" answers which are not founded on any basis.

Thanks :)

I think the 'don't mix drugs' in this case would be founded on a basis as there will be a reason you are taking an SNRI, what are you on them for?

Afraid I don't know about how using the mephedrone anyway will turn out, good job on asking here 1st :)

Tappered down to 25mg effexor over the last 5 days with no real sides, had none today.

Did 300mg meph oral, nice comeup and strong high after t+30, lasted about ~40 minutes then had another 200mg, didn't really increase or prolong the high, after t+3:00 I was at base line, heart rate went from ~80 -> 140 -> 90 over the 3 hours.

Thought it would have been stronger but I guess the SNRI was still blocking things, felt less cracked out than normal, would rate it again but need more like 1 gram imo. Won't be doing this again for some time.

Cheers anyway

Effexor has a rather long half life, you should probably wait a week or so to let the drug completely flush out of your system before attempting again

From the time you stop taking it entirely I would expect there to be a 5-7 day period where there's still metabolites in your body.

I have no experience with mephedrone, but i'm taking venlafaxine (and other meds) daily and have some experience with combining these with stimulants, especially ethylphenidate and methylphenidate. For harm reduction purposes, i have to say it's definitely a bad idea to combine these substances, as effexor lowers the seizure threshold and stimulants like ethylphenidate (and i'm pretty sure this is also the case with mephedrone - haven't read anything about this yet, but it would surprise me if it would not affect the seizure threshold) also come with an increased risk for seizures. IIRC, the combination of effexor and methylphenidate is known to cause seizures in some people.

But i had no problems with this combination so far (apart from an OD-experience caused by too much ethylphenidate and some other minor, but still contributing, factors). I want to emphasize again that i don't recommend it - me having no problems when combining it with stimulants doesn't mean it's a good idea.

But what i really wanted to say regarding your experience: I think effexor does "block" the effects of stimulants, or at least some of the effects. I need pretty high doses of stimulants since i'm on this med. Before that, i was very sensitive to stimulants and tiny amounts had massive effects for me. Now, my dosage for a stimulant is 5-10x the amount i would normally need for desired effects, which propably isn't very healthy. I get all the effects, but i need pretty high doses.

Regarding the half-life i have to say that i was under the impression that venlafaxine and its metabolites have a rather short half life compared to other antidepressants. It is reported that one missed dose can be enough to send you into withdrawal and that venlafaxine isn't really accumulating in "healthy subjects". If you take the instant release version of it (which isn't even available where i live), you have to take it 2-3 times daily.

You've got it backwards. Venlafaxine has a half life of ~5 hours, it's major active metabolite ~10 hours. Even spacing out my dose of Effexor XR (24 h release) every 8 hours, I'd still feel interdose withdrawl. Never again.
