Im having personal issues, not your problem, not your family or friends, and many here think........oooooooooooooohhhhhhh, lets jump on her saying a snowflake and such, in the day saying retard this and retard that , from kids that used it as slang or worse, than downs synd. but here in BL so many ppl say retard retard retard, its a fav and go to, but how if you were a retarded person or dad, sister aunt cousin and had a baby or a teen, friend or fam, an adults wanted to read this Bl(dont split hairs . babies arent going to read this).ohhhhh dont go to the lounge, etc, stay where you belong yah pussy retard fag? retard this and that, with drinking probs and wish for help , in derogatory and def negative terms, and we /they do read this .........just deal, blow it off ? Or think you all are regressed, truly the retarded ....wait ,grow and stop using retard .I get posts removed, gratefully ,retard, midget fag, people that stink.ok one, , i use personal insults directed, and refrain, i think the mods(allow me to think) and the nazi sympathizers (thinks hes so cool and bad ass, loves to fuck black girls , beaner beaners, knows many, blah)and racist big time under a guise racist slurrs with out a care, i feel as if that the mods be near afraid of thinking the 5 (6,7))everyday 18/7 days a week good old pals, back stab each other saying that how men show love till it pisses them off. that break every BLUA for shits n grins, testing and such not caring unless they are targeted, then i see see them bitch, rant. attack and even say ban him ,narc ass pussy hypocrites IMO , then next time goes by and call people rats, down syn reads this, no wonder they wont speak, tho autistic speak wanting to be understood, i know most do not care , but know you are not the only ones with needs of help..and now im glad sadly that people with downs or brain trauma and people seeking recovery wont find help and solace here, idc cat heads, shove it up yours original idgaf cat head. or open a can

Robi , I truly hope you are okay. I logged on this morning and read many of your posts from last night. Many were just gibberish ( many letters strung together without forming words ) and some were downright hateful. This is not like you at all and I am very worried about you. Not sure if you were just spamming many threads because you were angry at something or if you are needing some real help.

I would suggest you stay out of the lounge. That sub forum isn't like the rest of the place. It can trigger people that are going through problems because the posters in there are mostly shit posting or making fun of others for the most part. Even though it's all in fun sometimes people start taking it personally. And when that happens we get upset. I really hope that you are okay and just needed to vent last night.
 
Yeah, there is a reason I stay out of the lounge and don't really bother. I hope you're okay. I also hate when people use the word retard flippantly because I was called it a lot growing up by parents of the kids I played soccer with as I didn't talk much. That and special. Ableism seems to really be something that people don't care much about doing and accuse you of just being overly sensitive when you call it out. I used to say the word a lot and I had to train myself out of it, I had a friend who was pretty ableist and it caused me to mask my autism around him so he wouldn't make fun of me for doing things. It sucked.

Maybe just leave that area of the forum for a while. The lounge in the discord server is a decent place, we moderate use of ableist language and it isn't allowed there. I enjoy it a lot.

One forum member kept tagging me in some thread in the lounge that he started and I just kept ignoring it and not bothering to read his posts because I knew it wouldn't be good for me. It worked out for the best, and I think now he's stopped but it was happening pretty frequently before. I get the appeal of a place where people can just have fun but for the most part I personally don't spend a lot of time there. I see a lot of your posts and you're not usually like this so I hope nothing too bad is going on but I just want you to know I agree that certain language hurts people.
 
When I was younger, it was down syndrome that was the diss. Or calling someone a SPED. Now it's autism, which is much more common.

It's an interesting topic for sure.

I think it's different things, even though the word is the same. Being "retarded" in a cognitive developmental sense is not the same as being "retarded" in terms of having outdated opinions. Granted, there is probably a correlation between having cognitive impairments and having dumb opinions and in a sense it all could boil down to elitism - but we still need words to describe dumb thinking.

If i call someone a "retard" i simply use it to mean retarded opinions, not using serious medical problems as an insult. I realize it started as the latter, but things can be shifted around too.

I don't know about the conflicts you describe but i can comment on this topic.

Pro tip for anyone that reads this thread. The lounge is a sub forum of Bluelight where people can discuss all kinds of things. Different lifestyles, drugs, food, sex, animals, cigarettes, light bulbs, orgies, trees, laptops, sports........whatever you can think of. It's more relaxed and people take a piss on each other in there frequently. Especially the ones that are regulars and post in there often. We call them " lounge rats ".

This area of bluelight is very relaxed.......however the BLUA still applies. Ironically you can call someone a crazy motherfucker AS LONG AS THE OTHER MEMBER CAN ALSO CALL YOU A CRAZY MOTHERFUCKER IN RETURN. If it's done between two parties and all in fun it's acceptable. Lounge rats know each other well and call each other names all the time. Any member that wants to post in the lounge has to remember that you will more than likely be trolled and you will more than likely get your feelings hurt if you don't know how the lounge operates.

With that being said.......any member that frequents the lounge needs to realize that a thick skin is required and to take nothing personally. It's an area of Bluelight that is reserved for people to blow off steam and socialize without bringing it into our more serious harm reduction sub forums. It's a unique place with more reserved rules but there still ARE rules. " Enter at your own risk " is clearly posted and if any member is of a softer, more sensitive nature then the lounge may not be your cup of tea.

Also knowing the meaning of a word and how to use it goes a long way. If a DR. wants to " retard " the growth of cancer he throws chemo or radiation at it. Retard used in that context means to slow the growth of. Calling someone a " retard " means nothing however calling them " retarded " means they have been slowed down........which we all have come to know that people mean that mentally. Like they are slow in the brain department. Psychiatrists ( before they knew any better ) called some patients Mentally Retarded only meaning that their brain growth might have been slowed down by some mechanism. They didn't have a better term for it. So that word has now become slang for someone that we feel is slow. And yes it's an insult. And yes it's against the rules.

Mods can't read every single word in every single thread that is posted in the lounge. If you like to post in there and you see something.......say something. That's what the report function is for. We want people to post wherever they want and not feel areas are off limits because the rules may be a little less strict. The rules still apply it's just that the members can have a little more leeway in their vocabulary then if they were posting in the Health and Recovery sub forums. They are allowed to have a bit more fun and a few more jokes and laughs but we don't allow members to disparage other members in a cruel manner. That is always taken seriously. And we WILL address any issues that are brought to our attention.

I had some meltdowns from some offense I took in the lounge early on too. Its not the best time if youre a bit spun and also apt to take things really personally.

The thing is, its all in goos fun until someone gets hurt. It looks likeaybr someone owes Robi an apology. Whether they agree is a totally different story.

A thicker skin always helps in tuese situations. Its the hangout zone for a lot of people in a lot of different states. It's a beautiful thing, but sometimes someone gets hurt. Case by case basis goes the management of these situations.
