I'm glad to see this. I've seen way too many articles being all "weed smokers have mental issues, therefore weed smoking causes mental issues"

Glad somebody's taking the chance to examine which is actually cause and which is actually effect

The link between the two has been substantiated, but what remains controversial is if cannabis causes mental illness or potentiates a pre-disposition.

] My point is, this is a complex area of study and the jury is still out on certain factors.

I found several sources in two minutes (above). What factors? I agree that its not clear on whether cannabis causes mental illness or not. I think the evidence that it can bring out underlying mental insecurities is very substantial. And there's simply no real, foolproof way to tell if someone has such an issue until they have a bad experience.

Just look at cannabis discussion to see how common this phenomena is. They have at least one mega thread on it.
