Bluelighter
Walking out into the cold,
I glanced up at the sky
and my breath made trails
upward, shielding my vision from
the black.
I held my breath.
City lights,
bullying the stars, made the black stand out,
the tall buildings looking nothing more than
facades on a movie set.
My eyes focused.
Smiling, I floated over across the parking lot, my sneakers snapping me back into reality as I caught one on a crack in pavement. The feathers on my boa flew out behind me.
The wind swirled around me.
I glanced up at the sky again, only to notice a pink feather being carried away, up over a fence, flying fast away as I tried to move forward.
I heard voices.
Turning around, silouettes of friends staggered toward me. I felt their laughter echoing from the facades. As they came closer, smiles were exchanged.
Time to go home.
Piling in the car, it was all friendship bread sandwiches. Shivering, in an attempt to get the heat on as soon as possible, the car sputtered and all was bells and whistles.
The music started again.
As I glanced out the window, the highway became our playground. Trying to make out my reflection in the window, another face appeared. And a hand that blocked my vision of the window.
There was a camera flash.
Did I smile? I don't think I ever stopped the whole night, so I must have. Memories from a fabulous night.
I love my friends.
