not sure what else to call it. Some of it can be called cerebral techno. Often this kind of music can sound almost melancholic but while sounding quite beautiful.

I'm relatively new to this sound but here are some labels that release this kind of techno:

Traum
Parquat
Manual

Kollektiv Turmstraße - Freiflug

Max Cooper - Echoes Reality

Stimming - The Unicorn

Solee - Reflect

Minilogue - The Leopard (extrawelt remix)

Applescal - All Sparkles

take the melodies of trance, quirkiness of techno, and the atmospheric nature of ambient and this is what you get.

This is my favourite sub-genre of techno. I'd describe it the following way:

* It's feels like minimal techno from a purely technical point of view (pun not intended).
* It has that trancey emotional intensity (Not necessarily euphoria per se, but you something feel intense)
* The pacing general vibe mirrors deep house.

Some more cool tracks:

Dominik Eulberg - Daten-Ubertragungs-Kusschen (Rodriguez Jr Mix) - This one reminds me of childhood. :)

Lulu Rouge - Lulu's Theme

Trentemoller - Always Something Better (Trentemoller Remix)

Mono Electric Orchestra - Indifference (Henry Saiz Quetzalli Rework)

Max Cooper - Qualia - Never fails to send me beyond the exosphere. :)

I'd also recommend checking out all of Max Cooper's sets on Soundcloud. They have a similar vibe.

of course, I know levi would dig this thread. ;)

rather old stuff, but Sascha Funke's album "Mango", released on Bpitch Control is still a great piece of music. highly recommended: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMNbI5YUk4c

Kaito's records on Kompakt are also what you're looking for imo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfvcjCn4vb4

greets :)

nice. I really enjoyed kaito's music. thanks for the recommend.

another great track with long sweeping pads. pretty hypnotic.

Stephan Bodzin - Bedford

Was listening to this Max Cooper set while shopping earlier and put quite a bit of thought into the idea that melancholic was definitely the best way to describe certain tracks. Good to see someone else saying the same thing. :)

It's a really nice sound but I know little about it so don't have much to offer other than the melancholia really reminds me of the old James Holden/Nathan Fake sort of sound (i.e Outhouse/The Sky Was Pink).

More recently I'd say Henry Saiz is on a similar wave length. Definitely worth checking out his Balance 19 compilation.

I see you listen to a lot of the same stuff I do. And I highly recommend the Balance 19 compilation as well. It's a little more upbeat and varied than many of Cooper's mixes.
