Melbourne's Scene - BACK TO THE UNDERGROUND?

I'm orignally from Syd but now living in Melb..and I hate to use term but I will cause it's relevant here..I'm an Old Skooler..For me the term underground means Parties which are held in obscure venues,very little set up just decks and a few lights maybe a smoke machine,promoted on night only or word of mouth ,cheap entry and DJ's who play for the love of the scene..This is how remember my early days of partying in Syd and they fucking rocked..
So I do hope this is where the Melb scene is heading....But warning don't expect the comforts of Todays parties !!!!!!

Hey screw you guys. I would love to become part of the underground scen but being underage makes it a mite difficult. The reason i hate the mainstream scene? The music. Commercial trance in the form of Dj jean and PvD. That is the shit i don't wanna hear at a rave, (depends how fucked i am). You don't find good techno, acid, whatever at these dock parties. Only a year to go i guess.

Hardicus - I don't understand your reply...If you mean your age would affect you getn in to an underground party.Well then your wrong as a True underground party would 90% of the time be held at an un-licensed venue..ie dodgy wharehouse..

i have a question..
has anyone else here lately noticed that a whole bunch of...well i wont say friends..but associates...are now getting into to "weekend rave" thing....i mean these are the people who only a few months ago were hooning in there cars, smoking bongs, drinking, doin burnouts and other really "fun things" whilst listening to foxfm or ttfm .....they are now going to the big parties ie: GC and Perfecto which i refuse to go to....i have my reasons.. this crowd are now headed to Hardware and similar parties..blah blah.....i dont know how to feel about it...i mean its good that they are having fun n enjoing it..but now whenever i see them its like" Hey man, are u comin to such and such a party???"
after being a little taken aback..i say "yeh" and wonder wtf this group of peeps are doin at these parties....bahhh...im being selfish i know....but i alsoo know that this has happend to a cupple of other BL'ers ....what to do..i think the collective 'we' should embrace the "unauthorised party"
because ittssss alll aboout da music...

I know exactly what you're on about *E*van.
You get people comin along that used to hate the whole techno thing etc.
Heres an example of one of my cases. I got this friend whos a typical guitar/metalica greenday type of guy. I like techno. He bags me liking my techno and bags techno all togeather. And at this point he bags the way we produce techno and tries to make guitar guys etc. look way more advanced and shit like that, and saying that we dont use real instruments bla bla (i should start a thread with this shit).
So anyway, the next thing that happens is he want to go out to places with me where theres techno and that. Im like "i thaught you're into Metalica and that?"
Its like WTF? he's bagin me and electronic music and basically all of us and then he turns around and says he wants to be a part of it.
I dont think so

, its kunts like that that i dont wanna see when im out enjoing myself to good music. Its kunts like that that i dont wanna see if im playin my music.

Basically a point that was brought up in my older thread was

This is so fucking relevant! At the moment, for a lot of the 'weekend ravers', the 'scene' is a fad for them, they'll get over it, move on, etc. For those of us that really love it deeper than just the drugs...well we'll be here for ages....
Oh...and i would class an unauthorized party as just that..unauthorized. I played at an illegit party earlier on this year called forbidenn, it was at a dingy raw as fucking crap tin shed in north melbourne, that had a bad problem with rock dust. Basically, i was black all over for just being in there for 6 minutes....u couldn't sit on the floor unless u wanted a black ass....etc...
MY point is...if u enjoyed the music being played, and the company there, u didn't give a shit about all the 'inconviences'.
I don't think an illegit 'party' would not be considered 'unauthorized' or 'underground' on the basis that it had a shit load of lighting etc. That just shows that the crew who are putting it on are dedicated...doesn't iT?

just have to say I've had a somewhat similar experience KompleX
Summer dreaming 2000, the organic stage was a dust bowl people were literally dancing up a dust storm, it looked cool at dawn and stuff but you nearly needed a gas mask to dance, dirt everywhere, in your eyes, up your nose ectect
the fire brigade were spraying water on it to stop the dust = sticky dust
but I would put up with that grim any day for a bit o good music and a boogie

ehh god i loved the "soot party" even tho some of my clothes never recovered (my tigger backpack and my sneakers, asym's aphex tshirt... *sob*) i was at class war too, and other small parties like jungle bizness...
i will always choose one of these parties over some big event (except our first belfast, when we'd prebought tix before hearing about forbidden freeland 1. we showed to that but it hadnt started so we went belfast. since i love oldskool, i dont regret a minute of it.. god i'm way OT)
thing is, these parties really only happen a handful of times a year usually. at least, the ones i hear about, and i dont think i'm that outta contacts.. an underground scene could really flourish but there needs to be more people willing to actually put them on.
if they do, i for one will undoubtably go. the feeling and the vibe of that type of party is *incredible* n if they play jungle or psy, i will be in party heaven. =)

hey atomica... i agree. But for starters..underground doesn't necessarily mean illegitimate. Its a bit of a risk putitng on an illegit party, as I have heard that the more influential promoters of our scene our out to shut down all the smaller operators, especially if the party in question is illegit. Bwahaha the 'soot party'. U should have seen the SOOT when we cranked the system for the first time in there!!! We didn't need a smoke machine..put it that way. I have been cleaning black shit out of my gear for ages.......
Well...in light of all this, one of my goals is to setup an underground network of accquantances, wide enough to spread the word of parties enough to get a good size crowd there, but ensureing the crowd is 'nice'.

How the fuck i'm going to do that i don't know...hehe

serotone it does sound cool. so, i remember you asking for help re a party. whats happening w/ that did i miss it?! check the psyentist thread, a bl party may yet happen!
and yeah, i know underground isnt illegit, but illegit is still the best imo, i dont know why i just think its fucking cool hehe. i dont think jungle bizness was illegal was it? that party was *so good*. plus lil parties like the ones they used to have at leslie street. that venue was great! just the right size.
