[Melb] EGA 2010 Psychedelic Symposium Dec 4-5- Rick Doblin headlining – Melb Uni

That was me, so ill address it.

It was my first time doing something like this; I was the facilitator so I was charged with organising the other heads on the panel.

We had numerous changes in the panellists that were going to be on board, little communication before the event (not due to my constant attempts at making communication) and PsiloSubnaut who was supposed to be on the panel simply didn’t show up, so I had to find a last minute replacement.

I had perfect reason to be high strung.

The amount of content we had on the cards for a 50 minute discussion between 4 people was extensive, and the time limit was simply not adequate to really elucidate anything to a point of satisfaction (for me at least)

Combined with the fact that the other panellists (besides perhaps nano) were not prefaced with the same depth of information on the topic that I had to work with made it difficult to streamline it to everyone’s tastes.

How about some constructive criticism that will help in the future, rather than some vague exposé on the lack of relevancy to your particular interests.

Would help.

hey :) yeah, fair enough...sounds like you had a pretty tough time of it! and really a pretty tough topic, sorry I didn't mean to come across as overly critical/negative.

I guess I felt the focus of the panel seemed to have a relatively negative tone, I think it would have been interesting to explore the explosion in the presence of "RC" compounds in the broader market - jwh-xxx - even shops here in aus were/are selling it essentially completely unmarked as a "herbal high", the evolution of the RC market from a fringe industry into a huge money making machine, and some of the implications... in particular the ever escalating race between vendors & LE, and the potential huge downsides for users, especially in a profit driven unregulated market, as well as increasing importance of information sharing/harm reduction - 4mmc was touched on in these respects a little.

But when I say negative tone, I guess I felt nano was stereotyping rc's users into meph junkies who just wanted to "get fucked up" regardless of cost/harm - would have been interesting to hear some discussion on some of the new psychedelics, dmt analogues, and other cool compounds, and some of the history... I guess you could call mdma one of the first mainstream RC's.

anyway... yeah didn't mean to sound like a dick :) %)
