I've been getting vivid dreams/nightmares every night ever since quitting melatonin 7 months ago. Prior to that, I was taking melatonin on a daily basis, sometimes exceeding the maximum dose to something like 25mg, for around 3 years. I've had nightmares then also, but I think they came less frequently.
This have been really screwing with me, with me waking up soaked with sweat several times a week. I've also noticed that if I put on a sleeping mask (which causes the body to produce more melatonin?) the dreams are more vivid and the nightmares worse.
Is this a temporary thing? Or have I screwed up my neurocircuitry so much I won't be able to recover?
Thanks!
