I have taken melatonin for jetlag, sleep problems, etc. But I have never taken it in larger amounts. I talked to a few people first hand about it and they all same the same thing; their dreams are long and vivid. Has anyone else had a similar or even different experience with melatonin?

i have crazy intense dreams on melatonin, they are VERY realistic and very long...ive slept through all the parts of dreams you normally would wake up during (falling, drowning, etc), its very intense, i love it :)
definetly the dream drug

has anyone taken this over an extended amount of time and suffered any negative effects getting off it, such as needing it for sleep, etc?

Ocassionaly i'll take anywhere up to 10 mg of it before I sleep and i'll have the most restful sleep ever. Its quite refreshing.
Also, If i take some during the day and then smoke its quite a mellow high.
Ive never experienced any bad side effects except occasional tiredness upon waking, but that fades in a few hours

dude, i dunno about that^ (the smoking thing). no bad side effects. for me it kicks in pretty fast and is gone just as fast. it's not a buzz or anything i could describe as recreational, it's just a sleepy feeling that sets in, and then once it's gone, it's gone.
i've had more vivid dreams on xanax.

Hmmm... I take melatonin sometimes, even though it doesn't seem to do anything.. (i terms of quality of sleep, dreams, stress-relief or whatever people are claiming about it)
I've heard so many great things about it I feel compelled to take it anyway or something. (well i have a whole bottle so I might as well use it.)
I've taken up to 12mg before sleep and haven't noticed anything unusual about my dreams. I have quite vivid, memorable dreams fairly regularly anyway, so maybe it's just me.

Eating valerian root capsules does a lot more for 'encouraging' dreams than anything else ive tried...
well, maybe the half-dreams you get after a mda session.... ick

Taking more than 5mg has shown to make it harder to get to sleep. I love my nightly sleep-cocktails.
I take 3mg melatonin, 100mg B6 and a timed release multi-B vitamin. Also, I have a very hard time falling asleep so I take 2mg clonazepam and 50mg dimenhydrinate. That usually does the trick.
