[MEGA] Meditation

I don't believe in the spiritual side of meditation, but sometimes, when i find i have some extra focus inside me, i spend it on meditation, but only when i'm lying in bed ready to sleep.

I just breath with my nose and try to discard the thoughts(that's the hard part)...maybe it's not purely meditating, but i can physically feel my mind becoming ''softer''.

its a bit difficult, you will catch yourself pondering away about something while meditating and need to resume the breathing

its great for sleeping, you will feel very refreshed if you blank your mind before losing consciousness and wake up the day after

What do you mean you don't believe in the spiritual side of meditation clarify?

I know what you mean when you say soft I get that exact same feeling, also I have noticed the major difference when I go to sleep after meditation it allows me to rest a lot better, and when I wake up I feel clean and clear.

I meditate usually twice a day for 10 mins...

I have started doing ajna meditations

^Yeah, that is a question- how often do you meditate, and perhaps- what is the longest meditation you have done?

I personally meditate daily, ranging from 5mins-several short "focus breathing" episodes abut 1 min each-to 30 mins a day (each - means different days). I find that the best experiences are had either outside in the sun (I just pretended to be a tree for a while....:)) or lying down with ambient/drone music in headphones, or simply sitting comfortably and breathing deeply.

My longest single meditiation would be 3hrs, and that was outside~ though with psychedelics (under which I wuld call meditating something different ie. tripping :D) I've "meditated" for 10 hours plus....

I have started meditating on the third eye. I have started noticing heat coming from that area(third eye) when I am not even meditating. Any of you ran into this/ might know what it might be?

I try to meditate on this state constantly. It is my realm. Is that good or bad? I always get bashed on other boards. I never have an ego. When one starts to build i just turn it off. I really am just here in the world. I have trained my mind to look at it from any angle. Or none.

Sometimes it is difficult, but I feel like my life will be much more full and beneficial because of it. Even if I have to see things as they really are.

"I try to meditate on this state constantly"
"I never have an ego."

if effort is involved there is an ego.

AUM nom nom nom.

I think I had one sort of kundalini experience. I was experimenting with tantric masturbation, and instead of ejaculating upon orgasm, I relaxed and focused on my heart chakra and and undeniable warmth, this electric power rose to my heart, and when it reached it, I was just... there, and at peace. A few moments later, my entire body had a huuuge surplus of energy, and all of my muscles felt charged with moving potential, twitching and itching to be used. It was like 2 in the morning. I got up and ran like the wind. Ahhh. I have yet to recreate the experience.

7 other billion people also do not have egos... there is no such thing as an ego, no ego to bed rid of, no ego to see past, no ego to dissolve, no ego to fight with, no ego to transcend... ego is a concept... there is no static I or self-nature so you are not alone nobody has an ego.

I believe last night was the first time i was truly emerged within kundalini energy. I've been practicing for a while now.. been able to achieve relaxed states, but never anything that was noticeably powerful.

However last night, i felt a surge of energy pulsate up from my root chahkra, my heart rate increased and my eyes flickered.. i remember visualizing a flash of white light with my third eye just before this happened.. i hadn't had enough experience to maintain this.. and ended up opening my eyes breaking concentration.. which soon left me in a very euphoric state.

It was absolutely incredible.. i've never felt such a powerful sense of energy before

Yes, but the belief in the ego is as powerful as the ego is purported to be. Though I do understand and agree with what you are saying; all is in flux :)

Meditation

I recently got into Buddhism after reading The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac about a year or two ago. And it seems like the only time I can live life as happily as when I first became a stoner is when I go on week or more long breaks from drugs and meditate twice daily during that time as well as read books by Zen masters and the Dalai Lama. As of late however it seems as though I have been less willing to meditate and more willing to medicate, if you know what I mean.

I recently was experiencing some nasty acid flashbacks and I got mad paranoid about my whole life and friend situation: About how all of my friends seem out to get me to pay for their habits by their selling of pills and weed and other drug/money related shit and how none of them can be relied upon for emotional support whenever I feel overwhelmed and shit.
Today I smoked a few bowls and went to guitar center in between classes and played my heart out trying to clear my head, but I ended up having a panic attack after I left anyway and was sweaty and red-faced, and had thoughts racing through my head before during and after my classes like I did when i was on acid.
During this panic attack I was flooded with all of the emotions I have been feeling lately about my friends and how scummy they are, and how scummy I have become, but I managed to remember the teachings of Shunryu Suzuki and I closed my eyes while in the parking lot of my college and I simply counted to 10 while focusing on my breath and I felt worlds better.
The purpose of this post is to tell you how just a simple procedure like counting your breaths can greatly improve your mental state even while under the most stressful of circumstances.
I want people to talk about how meditation has positively impacted their situation as well as speculate as to why such a simple activity of just stopping your endless flow of selfish thoughts for only a few minutes can greatly improve your mental state.

I agree totally, Breathing is related to your state of consciousness and plays a dramatic role in your state of mind. Even on most basic (extreme) level if you don't breathe you aren't conscious.

meditation and consciousness is everything we aren't in modern day society.

social networking makes us less aware in our relationships.
faster travel creates larger distances between spaces.
super-efficient technological advances create more work for humans.

only the act of consciously sitting will truly provide you with wholehearted contentment.

nopeeeeee

you've got it a bit muddle there, changed. while meditation is a sure-fire way to get there, it is not the be-all-end-all. the key point is to forgo all attachments and desires, for only when you desire nothing can you be truly happy. meditation is a means, not an end. its actually possible to reach that state without even knowing HOW to meditate, but its incredibly difficult, and i guess you could say those people were predisposed to enlightenment in the first place, if there can be such a thing...

and thats probably not the best way to say it either, but my zen is kinda kerfuddled at the moment.

what attachments and desires can you possibly have when you are consciously sitting?

other than the sitting itself? =D

(if you are talking about other paths to enlightenment, of course you have koan reading, walking meditation, mindfulness meditation, instantaneous enlightenment, etc... but sitting seems to be the most accessible and easiest path towards a clear mind).
