[MEGA] Drying/Curing Marijuana

if you're going to rehydrate your weed, do it with lettuce or potatoe peels or something, not with orange peels, please, do a search if you don't know why..

dammit i just read a norml study where it says thc is affected by water...:( i guess when we use bongs, the hits are much bigger, more concentrated, thus making you more high...

Sorry why not orange peel, I'm not going to search for a reason.

Friends used to rap low quality bricks in a bag with orange peels soaked in rum to add moisture and taste. Why is that a bad idea?

Or any worse then letuce?

Does anyone store their buds in a humidor?

A friend of mine just picked up a nice humidor for his cubans, and it got me to thinking.. Does anyone use a humidor to store their buds? I haven't specifically heard of this done before (is it?) and was wondering what any pros/cons might be.

A humidor, hmm, what exactly is their purpose? Only for storing cigars, right? I haven't really heard of this before, just knew them as cigar boxes or something.. :) If it's just a plain box then, uhm, it should be good in keeping the buds away from light, wich destroys THC, wich is a good thing..

Well, a humidor usually will have a built-in humidifier that keeps a certain amount of humidity in the box - a properly functioning, well-made humidor will preserve cigars indefinitely. I just kinda figured maybe it would help keep your buds from drying out? I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone has tried storing buds in one for an extended period of time, seeing as how I'd never heard of one being used for this purpose. Also, humidors are not only boxes, but they can be jars, containers, etc.

^^ the worst that could happen is if they are too moist mold could grow on them

once pot is properly dried, storing it in an airtight container should keep in good shape for a while. I imagine a nice humidor that was set correctly could be beneficial but i dont know

Well, the same should hold true for cigars then, right? If it's too moist, the cigars would mold? I'm not saying this is the way to go cuz I have no idea, I was just curious if anyone had any experience with this, and any pros/cons you could think of. Thanks for the input.

I think a humidor would be a good place to keep your buds, for a short while. It would definitely help them to stay dank. Too much heat or moisture will eventually give you decomposition problems though...

Now, here's what I always wanted to try: Take some freshly picked buds, which would be too moist yet for smoking. Then I would find some whole green tobacco leaf, like would be used for rolling a cigar. I'd roll blunts out of these, and let the tobacco and the weed cure together in a humidor!

It's my theory that this would create the ultimate blunt!

^^ Hehe, it's been done before I reckon, but what sounds even better is rolling the cigar with cannabis leaves. Just pack your buds (and additional tobacco) tight together and start wrapping those long leaves around. In the end it'll be somewhat weird looking, but it sounds nice for a change.

But I don't know about the humidor thing, if it is for keeping things moist, I would'nt cure my weed/blunt in it. Guess it has an advantage for most people, wanting their weed not fully cured but still a bit wet, don't know why so many people favor wet weed over dry weed actually, if the weed is cured in a proper way, it should essentially be better (tasting).

[MEGA] Drying/Curing

For curing I've heard 3 days hanging. 3-5 days in paper bags and then into the jars. Do you open the jars to let off moisture? Or should all the wet be gone before you put them into the jars? Peace.

Hmm, I don't know too much about the curing process. But anyone I've seen do it used a sealed glass jar. They would stuff this full of nugs and keep it in a closet (~75 degrees) for a few months. I would be suprised if the air inside this jar did not get very quickly as moist as a humidor (it would depend on the temp.) Can someone post the proper technique (moisture/humidity/time/weed dancing?)

And as for rolling with the cannabis itself, I've always wanted to do this as well, anyone every gotten it to work? Blowmonkey, like you I prefer the drier buds myself (sometimes I purposely leave my sack open if it's too "dank."), with the exception of blunts (I like them to burn for like 45 minutes :))

the first 3 days open the jars for a bit then close em down.. only open them again if you see moisture on the inside of the jars. Always keep em in a dark area once you are done trimming.. light kills THC. Curing not only improves the taste and smoothness but also increases the potency.

One the bud is dry smoke a little bowl and put the rest away for a month.. smoke again and you will notice a difference as big as night and day. Knowing when to harvest and curing is an artform.
