[MEGA] Cannabis Strain discussion thread

I'm in Canada and I belong to a compassion club and therefore I always know the strain (if I can remember it 5 minutes later). Quite a set up really.

I agree that there is a predominance of Indica up here. I think it's due to the 'medical market' but not being a grower I'm not sure if cetain strains grow better here even with climate control.

Always good though.

Almost everything is Skunk related. Skunk #1 was one of the first IBL's and most NL strains have Skunk #1 in them. And I think you have your answer. Hypothetically, because I know you wouldn't grow weed unless it's legal where you live :\ , harvesting early will also give you a high instead of a stone. Premature sativa buds are zing-zingy. If you were searching for a strain with similar characteristics landrace sativa's are what you'd be wanting. I've consistently read that strains developed at higher elevation, specifically ones in S. Africa and Indonesia have THCV due to more UV-light exposure at those higher altitudes. THCV is apparently more "psychedelic" in the hallucinogen sense than delta-9. Propyl side chain replaces the amyl chain of THC.

Indica's have a a more conducive chemotype for the patient. Although I personally think a mixture of a couch-lock indica and high sativa is better than one or the other by themselves. Although in Canada a strain with any Sativa in it would be hard pressed to finish on time outdoors. And most take too long indoors for people to worry about it. Would you rather grow a strain that takes 60 days from clone to bud or one that take 140 days? And that's what decides it. If people were unconcerned with money and a little more patient we'd all be smoking a lot more Sativa's.

If we lived in a world where growing weed for personal use is legal, I'd be more than patient to care for a slow-growing sativa and use only once or twice each month.

Actually, less psychedelic, it's a CB antagonist, not an agonist. It does the complete opposite of what THC does, so for example, instead of acting like an anti-emetic (counter-acting nausea), it induces it.

Since this thread has developed more into a strain discussion thread as opposed to a ID thread, I'm going to merge this topic and the AK-47 topic in with the strain discussion thread.

Yo Blow... naturally occuring anandamide is a more potent an antagonist of THC than THCV is. While THCV appears to have a neglible subjective impact by itself its' modulation of THC's actions are still unknow. I will correct myself. Strains containing THCV are apparently more "psychedelic" in the hallucinogenic sense than strains low in THCV. There's the early ~1970's studies where they gave people marijuana cigarettes (hehe) containing a high THC strain and then a high CBD/THC strain. Overwhelmingly people liked the CBD/THC cigs more.

THCV does have agonist/antagonist properties at CB1 receptors. THCV has also led people to speculate that there are different receptor types other than just CB1 and CB2. Its' selective nature blocks its' effect at some areas therefore changing the subjective nature of the high. THCV, by selectively lowering THC's effect at some areas increases effect at areas not presynaptically antagonized by THCV.<-Question in the form of a statement. Someone with a Neurology background please answer.

I've been sent a couple of great (new) strains a little while ago, amongst them Blueberry, Jackberry (a lovely Jack Herer dad crossed with a Blueberry female) and a strain called "Killing fields" (The One mom crossed with a Jack Herer dad, where "The One" is a strain which consists of a Blueberry mom together with a Killa Queen dad), it ends up looking something like this:

All in all, gonna be some nice colours I think. =D
 
Sativa reccomend

A bloke at work is going to Amsterdam this weekend and asked if I wanted any skunk.

Naturally, that means I'm going to get some fucking strong Sativa seeing as he asked.

Can anybody reccomend me the best Sativa strain out there? Surely there is an indisputed champion, or is it more subjective than you'd think?

While we're at it, where shall I send him to get it?
 
Asking what the "best" Sativa strain is, is akin to asking what the best type of wine is... You are going to get widely different answers. In fact, there is no "best" per-se, as there are so many strains and varieties out there, and different people have different preferences, etc. The permutations are nearly endless.

For starters, you can start with the Cannabis Cup winners list which might help you come to a decision.

Mr Nice Super Silver Haze (just cos I loved the book, never smoked to my knowledge, meant to be damn good though)

though it's a sativa/indica hybrid, i prefer jack herer over other sativas. unless i'm doing some stronger psychedelic in the first place, i like dont feeling like i'm in a trip on some herb, i just wanna chill or be creative. so... herer gives me the strong creative vibe of a sativa but also just the right amount of sedation so my body doesn't feel like it's tripping... just in case i wanna sleep instead of stay awake but it doesn't affect my consciousness any more than being sober which makes it a pretty unique strain
 
Sour Diesel

Tried some for the first time last night. Amaazing. Probably the most psychedelic high I've ever had. Definitely was higher than I've ever been, it was fantastic. I was seeing the most vivid CEV's.
Who else loves this strain? Share your experiences.
 
Arizona. I think it's big in NYC though, often its called NYC Sour Diesel. Or maybe that's slightly different. Either way, Sour Diesel is amazing, and very potent.

I have been waiting for this to come around for a while, My friend got some a while ago but i wasn't smoking at the time so I missed out :X
