Man... strain ID is impossible. Most of the BC strains are so interbred between a couple strains that nearly all the IBL's are closely related. The example I always think of is Sweet Red Grapefruit which is actually NL#2 with a different name. Kali Mist is a popular strain name, but is the same as Western Winds put out by Sag a couple years ago. Cinderella '99 is a quick flowering sativa that can find success in the North.
Haze's are generally 100% sativa, but not always. As well as the fact that most of the strain names people throw around are strains that were popular 5-10 years ago. No one's mentioned a Oger's Kush or Deep Chunk or even Sweet Tooth #3/4 of which both are potent commercial strains. You could have a Big Bud pheno that's super fruity and potent. A lot of strains are relatively unstable, meaning higher variability, and you can get vastly different results. After all that being said, it's more than ridiculous to try to come up with a strain name for a bud. Even with a picture and the seed packet next to it doesn't mean that much. Give me a list of 10 strains and 10 unlabelled bags of buds and I doubt I would be able to accurately match them. Unless you've grown a strain and "know" what it is and have spent a fair amount of time around it you won't have more than anecdotal evidence/understanding of that strain.
My understanding is that Purple Haze was never a strain. It's the name of a Jimi Hendrix song and there could be purple Hazes but not "Purple Haze". Excuse me... while I lick my thighs... uhnnnn... hahaha...
I've had access to a strain simply called Grapefruit. It's bred by Female Seeds. Awesome 100% sativa. Truly psychedelic with the most fruity, light essence of any weed I've experienced. I've had Trainwreck, various incarnations of Soma's Diesels, among other name-dropping strains, but this one is my favorite. A couple pics in someone's gallery.
Peace,
