going to those mandatory meetings..with everyone sitting around telling their stories...sitting around talking about getting high. it just makes me wanna go out and get high..

you know what I mean?

meetings are stupid.

Try a different meeting man. There's tons of different ones out there. If the one you are currently going to leaves your craving at the end of it try switching it up and attending a different one. Are you young? The young people's meetings are great!

Meetings are stupid, ergo I must be stupid for attending them. Didn't think so.

This is a common dilemma. Many addicts find AA less triggering than NA, especially the newcomer, so you should switch it up. The larger issue, of course, is whether or not you want to quit.

either go to a different meeting or just tell them how you are feeling, they should respect how it makes you feel and support you.

Or perhaps AA & NA meetings just aren't for you.

I for one am amazed at how few people seem to identify the cult-like nature of the entire AA/NA movement. Sure it works for some people but seems to be the only part of the rehab industry operating beyond the realms of objective scientific scrutiny and oversight.

I second this advice. AA definitely was a lot easier on me since I wasn't as easily triggered by alcohol as I was drug talk in the NA meetings. AA meetings also provided the same message and structure though so it works out pretty well.
