Meditation Tips?

^yes, practice every day, or whenever you want to. That's a good thing to do, but the key isn't to just go through the motions in hopes of achieving something. Well, on the physical side of it, there are numerous benefits I heard talked about, about how it's good for the aging process and longevity, and vitality, and mental focus, but on the spiritual side of it you aren't going and where. You are just trying to strip away all the excess thoughts and stresses in the most gentle way possible, by letting them have free roam until they fizzle out. That's the idea of single-point meditation, though.
There's visualization meditation that has been widely known to help you achieve real goals. Just picture yourself doing what you want to do, how you want to do it, and all that good stuff, and the more real it is in your mind, the more real you are capable of making it in reality.

There is a really good book by Thich Nhat Hanh called "Peace is Every Step". It is all about being mindful as the best way to bring peace to the universe. Since we are all one, this is the ultimate "goal" of meditation. Here is one meditation to try, say this in your head as you follow the directions:

I breath in and clam my body.
I breath out and smile.
I breath in and realize this moment.
I breath out, it is a beautiful moment.

repeat

The book is very simple yet elegant.

+1 on Thich Nhat Hanh. I have read "Anger" and am currently reading his book on Love. He has a very simple, non-argumentative, yet non-bragging way of explaining that peace comes from the inside. After reading the first book, I currently have a small stack on his other books in my room that are in queue or being read.

Another book I suggest reading is a shortened version of the Dhammapada, for anyone who is interested. The one I own is by Shiv. K. Kumar and it is excellent, yet simply stated.

Was out @ a street fair on the weekend and ran into this FALUN GONG mob.... Id only ever heard of these people being persicuted in China, but watching them meditate they really seemed @ peace.
I got some reading info and Its free to go join only is a little far for me atm, Does anyone else have thier take/oppinion with this practice?
It looks like a good thing although many same principals of any kind of meditation, Is there really any great difference in which type of meditation to engage in? like theres all these different forms then theres what i do, somehow im doubtfull that my methods would be anywhere near what someone whom is experienced can show me or whats been preacticed for hundreds of years.

IMO there is no one "right" way to mediate. You are correct that there are many different styles with many different aims. To understand these aims is in itself a goal of meditation. I'm currently into the ashtanga yogic tradition which has the practitioner prepare their body for savasana (lying down mediation or "the death pose") with asanas (postures).

Some great input on this thread.

One can always learn, more, new, better, different.

I recently read about quantum psychology and one technique teaches you to actually look for and find the space between your thoughts!

It might be an idea to try a type of music called "binaural beats" its not music in any real sense, but it can scientificaly put you into a trance like state, or even a hypnotic state in some cases. It could help you meditate; I need help with this too, I am trying to buy this, and I can let you know if it works or not.

True meditation can be damned hard to achieve. It sounds strange but I do paint by numbers, and my head clears and I do experience a type of meditative state when I do this.
