If I have 15g of medicinal cannabis flower (low dose THC %) and I am only an occasional user and prefer it before bed to help me sleep, would I be better off making the flower into canna butter? I did it once before and it turned out well. This is my last 15g tub I can get without a new prescription. One I smoked and I am still using that tub but at the bottom of it (it's lasted me over a year) one I made into cannabutter but didn't last as long as the tub I smoked and this last full tub I am not sure what to do with. I also have 2 types of oils (one is higher THC and the other higher CBD) but I found the cannabutter was richer and delicious but I am a lightweight when it comes to smoking it and don't enjoy being too high.

Just wondering what your thoughts are as to how to get the most use out of it.

Thank you for reading.

In my opinion, yes. I find oral dosing much more suitable for general sleep purposes, as long as it's dosed properly and not too much. Smoked/sublingual THC tends to be more stimulating for me (this is likely due to the rush/quick onset) and doesn't always put me in the mood to sleep. But this is all variable on tolerance and subjective experiences.

Once you find your sweet spot in terms of dosing, without getting too high, it's far superior to smoking IMO (in regards to sleep).

If I have 15g... ...how to get the most use out of it.

Edibles involve filtration organs on top of implying a long action delay, which means you'll need more and if you've been after some sedative effect then try not gamble too much on it as i doubt the required dose will allow you to wake up fresh as a rose in the early morning, all while also avoiding the spiral of abuse indefinitely... I'm afraid there's no miracle drug, cannabis can act as a catalyst but YOU'd still need to do the work, which in this case spells relaxation IMO. There are people for who this may be attained through music appreciation, depending on the mood... Anyway if you keep watching the clock then my guess is that's going to be a problem and might even result in installing yet another layer of difficulty.

In addition there are people who just need to take a vacation from themselves.

check out the ball jar slow cooker method
I sometimes double or triple the slow cook time
it produces more cbd ...

But I always start w/
15 - 25% thc and decarb prior to ensure conversion
Thank you for your reply and recommendation. I will look into this but I think the main thing that stopped me using a mason jar to "cook" the flower in was the type of seal needed was not easily available.

The other question is can I just cook part of the 15g instead of all of it so I have a variety? I have scales so I could decarb and cook 10g and keep 5g for smoking but not sure if 10g is enough to infuse in butter. I would use a full 250g stick of unsalted butter.

Thank you for your reply and good explanation. I found I did not freak out as much with the butter I made last time so even though it didn't last as long as smoking it I felt like I got more out of it.

I think the cannabinoid most likely to be produced from overheating cannabis is CBN, the one with the 'sleepy' reputation, but much less active at CB1 than THC, somewhere in between CBD and THC.

I am just trying to think how to do it. How much flower do you usually use for one batch? I have 15g which I used it all of last time. Also is the ball jar slow cooker method needing a mason jar? I did see a method using those but unless I bought special expensive ones online I don't think I could use the cheaper mason jars due to something about the seal.

So I did "bake" the flower dry in the oven first at a certain temp (forget now but would look it up again) and then put it in my mini slow cooker (it's super small but was big enough for this) with the 250g of unsalted butter and cooked it for a much longer time of something like 4 hours. I think I stirred it every hour from memory. I also think I became inpatient and only went 3 hours so I didn't do this step as long as I was meant to. I then drained it with clean muslim I think and drained it into a glass pyrex jar and put it in the fridge. I then just cut a bit off when I wanted some and ate it and it had a lovely deep caramel herbal flavour. I could eat it like that as it tasted just wonderful and was almost like eating chocolate. I only had small amounts though of no more than a teaspoon at a time.

You need to seal the jar with the lid and completely submerge it under water
use some type of weight if needed ...
I use a baking thermometer to make sure its hits 190° at least half the cook time
I found for best results ...cook six hours, let cool
then cook six more
I use the same
15 - 20 gm to 4 oz butter
pure avacado or coconut oil works great too

Thank you so much again on letting me know how to do it. I can't do this method though due to my slow cooker is only a mini one so not big enough to fully immerse a mason jar and I don't have the thermometer, etc.

... youll figure it out
Thank you. Yes I will. So just looking at it and comparing to what I do - our "sticks" of butter in Australia are double what American ones are I think. I use a full 250g thing of butter which is double and closer to 9 oz. So the butter will be double for 15g weed.

Also when you say you cook it twice - is that in the final stage after you have also baked it to decarb it?

Yeah
15 gms to half lb is fine
I just prefer it more concentrated and scoop less
the double cook was on accident one time but I noticed the cool down and cook again made it noticably stronger

trial by error

I once accidentally broke the mason jar in the slow cooker (indica wax mixed into condensed milk)
took almost three days to steam off all the water back into wax caramel
Was the strongest medicine ive made by miles

edit: damn, I still have some of that caramel in the deep freeze
but I have to rise and shine
