Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Opioid Replacement Therapy (ORT)
Since 2015, there has been a significant push by federal government to expand MAT/ORT

In 2015, the U. S. Health and Human Services department (HHS) launched a multi-pronged effort to combat opiod abuse, including expanding the use of MAT and educating professionals about evidence-based treatment, e.g., MAT. President Obama, in 2015, announced public-private partnership to address opiod abuse, including expanding access to MAT. 2016 budget includes $133 million addressing opiod abuse, including expanding use of MAT.

This is good, the gov needs to expand ORT and make it more accessible to addicts. I guess they are starting to see that abstinence models of treatments are garbage and don't have near the success rates of ORT.

The gov needs to find a way to make subs and meth more affordable, they also need to increase doctor's patients caps so they can treat more addicts. Addicts should try a suboxone or meth, if necessary, long term maintenance program witch will be paired with therapy. By long term I mean years, years on suboxone or meth is just so much better than struggling with dope getting clean, staying clean for a few months, using again... its fucked.

Tell me how is struggling to be clean and being absolutely miserable a life worth living? Its not. At least with the ORT the brain is satisfied nd one can live a normal life.

I think ORT expanded and increased by the gov is gREAT and is the first step in combating the nation's epidemic. Obviously much more still needs to be done, but it is a step in the right direction.

would anyone disagree with me? Id love to hear why you think ORT is bad and why abstinence is a better treatment model....

I am really hoping the cost of ORT treatment will come down for the consumer. My family is really struggling to pay the 550 dollars a month that methadone costs.

@cj... do you mind if I ask, roughly what geographic area you're in? i had no idea $550 was the going rate for methadone!

I live in Birmingham Alabama. The messed up part is that my methadone would be free if I was on Medicaid. However since Alabama has declined the federal Medicaid extension put fourth by the affordable care act its nearly impossible even with zero income for a single male with no kids such as myself to get on medicaid. I have been denied twice even though I have zero income and list of mental health diagnoses. My long term plan is to move to a state where it is cheaper. Thankfully my parents pay for it right now or I wouldn't be able to afford it.
