Media Bias Thread

Politico published a political opposition piece and in it they outed a political candidate (guess which party) as a sexual assault survivor by likely illegally obtained private records and claim the records were obtained through FOIA which is a lie, because FOIA specifically protects victims of sexual assault, and the victim must be notified of the FOIA request and sign off on the release or it can't be released

kind of unrelated , but I was just thinking the other day about the Herschel Walker abortion situation in Georgia. The media is all over it, kind of demonizing the guy for doing it. But these same people think abortion is nothing more than getting a mole cut off, so dont get why now it's all of a sudden such a huge deal. I know they are trying to show him to be a hypocrite, which he is, but they are clearly scandalizing it to gain political ground when they would never do that in any other circumstance.

I think it's safe to say that most people in the "mainstream media" don't support Walker's official line on this issue, which in case anyone forgot is:

Herschel Walker, the ex-American football star turned Georgia Republican senate candidate, has declared his support for a complete ban on abortion without exceptions for survivors of rape or incest, or exceptions for when such a procedure might be necessary to save a woman’s life.

I mean, I'm skeptical of the value in pointing out a politician's hypocrisy most of the time too, but c'mon, you can't take a hardline position like that and then say oh it's not the right time for me to have a kid right now, lets go get you an abortion! Abortion is murder but lets just go do a little murder, no biggie!

I mean, I get changing your views from 13 years ago, but to support excluding rape and incest, and excluding medically necessary abortions is pretty ridiculous. Even the new Alabama law isn't as restrictive as Walkers position, and it's Alabama

I can even understand (though disagree with) a ban on abortions for rape or incest, but to oppose abortion when to not get one will kill the mother is insane. To me THAT is murder, no two ways about it. I have a very hard time believing that anyone, if they faced their wife/partner dying vs aborting an unborn child, would choose their partner dying, if it was them. If you have to choose an already living person, who is likely already a mother to other children and a loved one to many, vs a child who hasn't been born yet, the choice should be obvious.

I assume the ones who would choose the baby would be very religious and see it as gods will.

I agree with common sense, obviously rape, incest and well-being of the mother are all legitimate reasons for abortion, and just abortion in general should be allowed up until a certain time, I feel like 3mths is fair for everyone

Also from the article linked below
"[Officer Performance Reports] could only be released if that member agreed, in writing, to release his or her documents," Cotton's letter said, quoting an Air Force response to a congressional inquiry from his office.

Both are New York Times headlines from two days apart. Guess the political party of each person based on the headlines

Guess which one can't form coherent sentences after a major stroke

i think they're both accurate analyses.

they're also both clearly opinion pieces. not news reports.

An article titled: Affirmative action challenges aren’t about ending discrimination. Their goal is white supremacy

And then it says this in the 2nd paragraph like people aren't able to think for themselves, and it must be due to propaganda

that's another opinion piece. it says it right there on the piece.

you can complain about bias in news reporting all you want but you look kind of silly complaining about bias in opinion pieces which contain, you know, opinions...

Tbf the ultimate in looking silly is subtly defending the media. The US state media is as clownish as chinas, Russias, etc.. It’s sort of wild to me that folx on either side can’t see it.

Diet Coke sucks. I don't know how anyone could be passionately pro-Diet Coke when you could be drinking anything else

Different strokes I guess
