Media Bias Thread

“Trump’s rhetoric puts journalists in danger”

Who’s rhetoric put Trump volunteers in danger when a van sped into their tent this weekend in Jacksonville?

This was a group of moms on their day off doing voter registration

And the media reaction tells you everything.

(lack of reaction!) Imagine if the script was flipped.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

What does that mean?

We're not allowed to denounce terrorism against Trump supporters.

I'll be honest, I'm not following the posts by JG nor Xork in the last few posts.

JG - I think your point is that the media isn't covering this FL vehicle attack, which is mostly true as MSM isn't touching it, only local and regional coverage at best. But I fail to see the connection of 'Trump puts the media in danger' tying over to 'media puts voters in danger'. This is a one-off nut who did this, and I can't see where the media caused anything. They don't cover it, if it's not a conservative attacking liberals, but they aren't causing it as much as I can see.

Xork - it's a common reply which you provided. Do you mean 'Trump putting media in danger' is a separate issue? On that I can somewhat agree, it is separate, but I don't see him putting the media in danger in the first place. I see members of the media putting themselves in danger by their own continued biased behaviour. Prime example is the Charlie Hedbo shooting in France. Closer to home, how many TMZ reporters get cameras smashed or bodies pushed away by being overly aggressive in pursuing people? There is no respect for others, nor the truth. Only headlines that keep your followers happy.

I'm saying it doesn't make Trump's rhetoric okay just because someone may have heard rhetoric encouraging violence against Trump supporters. Also I don't know that this person was urged to do this because of the media. Maybe they were, but if so I maintain my point. It seemed to me you were apologizing for Trump's rhetoric with that post but maybe you weren't, if not, my bad.

I don't know why we think there is any chance of the media ever telling anything like the simple truth without spinning it to within an inch of its life. There is a reason Billionaires buy newspapers and cable channels and it isn't that they want to make money per se, they want to mess with your mind and maybe make some money. Being able to mess with large numbers of peoples minds all at once is a powerful tool. The Yellow press is slowly becoming the only press.

The mainstream media are bought and paid for propagandists for corporate interests, every single one of them.
The Fourth Estate which is rotting out from the core.

To an extent Bluelight and sites like it are a new Fifth Estate which has a important role to play in the future, as the fourth estate further necrotizes and eventally dies, something has to take its place, which is why I bother with it. Trump owes his presidency to the 5th estate destroying Hillary by revealing her (many) problems. The power of the 5th estate has grown to the point where corporate interests and the State want to censor and muzzle it, First Amendment be damned. The 5th Estate can put Bernie in the Whitehouse or return Trump, it really does have that power.

The annoying host thing bothers me more than it should.

Doubt it. He’s back on the Trump train.

No I'm not. But we're being disingenuous if we compare triggered leftist violence vs Trump supporter violence.

This is a meme, and less about bias but highlighting the fact that the media sells their agenda, not facts:

^ when is that from? where is it? who are the people in the image? who are "the media"?

using an image like this to criticize "the media" generally seems pretty tenuous, doesn't it? not to mention a little ironic?

Ok, explain to me any situation where it makes sense for the on-camera to be done up like that, and the cameraman to be exposed. I'll hang up and wait.

  • a report in a safe zone demonstrating how people have to dress in a non-safe zone
  • a fabricated set-up designed to make the media look bad
  • a tv or movie set
there are 3.

do i think any of those are what's actually happening there? maybe. maybe not. maybe this is the media cynically stoking panic.

i don't know. and that's the point.

we're supposed to not trust "the media". get our information from multiple sources. corroborate, etc.

i have no idea who those people are, where it is or when it's from. why would i believe it's the media creating panic - let alone "a prime example" - just because the caption says so?

it's just as likely this meme is selling an agenda not facts.

a report in a safe zone demonstrating how people have to dress in a non-safe zone - possibly. unlikely, but possible.

a fabricated set-up designed to make the media look bad - as if that were needed. while possible, the scene doesn't convey such a construct (there are only 2 persons, solely focused upon themselves)

a tv or movie set - there is a lack of any other crew, and we see explicitly the type of 2-person news crew used for on-the-street reporting

= = = = =

Ultimately, though, I agree with you that without context, it's little more than meme fodder.

Have I mentioned I hate the media, and they nearly always speak thru their agenda? It's good for them to be called out on it. I could see a defense of 'more information available, but I sincerely doubt the 'before' or 'after' clips are running without agenda.

Hrm, video not showing. Link to it offsite for WaPo comparison on Fox shifting it's talking points

i spent a little time trying to find out more about that picture and the people in it.

i failed pretty miserably but... it does appear online a lot. it's mostly been (re)tweeted by people using it to criticize the media e.g. adam carolla "How dumb are we ?", james woods "Here’s a #MediaPest conning the public with clear overreaction to the current pandemic.") i don't see them holding themselves to the same standard and asking who are those people? when and where was this taken?

i guess the irony is just lost on them...

james woods "Here’s a #MediaPest conning the public with clear overreaction to the current pandemic."

That's a special case, worse than me for passing dumb shit along without questioning it, because he shoves a very hard opinion on every one of them. I guess that happens when you're an out of work actor.

Less about malicious intent to mislead, and more an example of a 'news source' the people rely upon showing themselves to be wholly inept.

Many may recall the image of Alabama being labelled as Mississippi during the hurricane season. Unforgivable for anyone in the south, but for others it might be understandable. Btw, CNN headquarters is/was Atlanta, GA. Less than an hour from the GA border.

Now, I've found several other examples:

Not so much a wrong location as much as it is TMI. A map of nuclear plants in Japan shows "Shibuyaeggman" which isn't a place. Shibuya IS a town, and Eggman is an upscale club in the swank neighborhood.

ALL of this is to say, how can we expect the truth from people who can't even present us with basic truths that we KNOW?

Not Woke: Censorship is greast!

Diet Woke: Liberal media is censoring out of control!

Full Woke: Trump and Republicans pass tyrannical ethnic/religious speech laws protecting the CEO of YouTube who's removing medical doctors and BioScience companies.

'This is deeper than a cover-up': Rose McGowan denounces Democratic Party, calls the media a cult
The Blaze said:
Actress Rose McGowan denounced the Democratic Party and the media in an emotional post calling both a "cult" that only pretended to be "the good guys."

McGowan, who sounded the alarm against accused sexual predator Harvey Weinstein but went unheeded, posted her comments on social media on Wednesday.

"I used to be a proud Democrat. I would have died for this damned country & its ideals. I was raised to be a proud Democrat," she said, explaining how much she supported the party in her youth.

"And I was always told it was the Democratic Party that were the good guys, that our papers were [the New York Times] and [the Washington Post] & we as a family loved listening to [All Things Considered] & we'd talk about how much we loved [Ira Glass'] voice," she continued.

"But now i know too much," McGowan said.

"And I feel really quite a sense of loss tonight. I am not a cynical person, but America goddamn. Republicans have always been painted as the bad guys, and i've always seen them more as a cult, but now i realize so are the democrats and the media. Macro and micro," she continued.

"This is deeper than a cover-up," McGowan concluded. "And I'm sad because there's death around all corners & shadows in the daytime. It hurts."

McGowan did not elaborate on why she was denouncing the Democratic Party, but it was likely because so many on the left were defending Joe Biden against allegations of sexual assault. In another tweet from Monday, McGowan excoriated Biden over the assault claims.

"Answer your taxpayers, answer Tara Reade, stop speaking through your manager," she said.

I ditched the Democrat Party after Obama turned out to be a phony/psychopathic warmonger.
