I don't watch MSM for reasons I've expressed repeatedly. However, with my long commutes I'm given an opportunity to listen to talk radio a good bit. The downside of that is, all I can find are conservative talk hosts (Ha! Local station replaced Rush with Fox & Friends...no longer using that station, not because I love and miss Rush, but this was worse). Anyway, I've gotten to where I find them about 10% informative of what's going on (covered with heavy right-slant, but the nuggets of fact are used for a foundation), and about 50% right-slant...and the other 40% absurdly annoying. Sometimes amusing with how bias they are, more often just annoying af. This is why I asked in another thread for anything else to listen to. I suppose I could go to podcasts, but they don't fit my listening patterns and I expect they have a trademarked flavor of bias to retain followers (ie, Joe Rogan) which often doesn't appeal to me either.

Among other sites NewsGuard has handed red 'no-go' tickets to are RT and Sputnik, Wikileaks, investigative news site MintPress News, news aggregator Drudge Report, The Duran, Zero Hedge, the One America News Network, and Global Research. Notice that they're either, broadly-speaking, American and of nationalist/conservative persuasion, or international in focus and anti-empire. All have been labelled 'fake news' and 'pro-Kremlin' by representatives of the US government and its satellite Washington DC think-tanks over the last few years.

The NewsGuard Advisory Board includes a bevy of former top editors and publishers at major Western media companies, former spy chiefs, and top bureaucrats from NATO countries.
 
CNN coverage leading into the debate with a segment about random Bernie bros on Twitter. usual playbook. comparing us to trump supporters. Saying we are willing to use violence and intimidation. Labeling us as bullies.

Question for the Americans. Do your government pay the media? The liberals in Canada paid 600 million to the media and the bias shows. Just wondering if my neighbors had the same problem

Overtly? No. Gov't only funds certain channels:
C-Span where you can watch endless hours of Congressional proceedings and be bored to tears
Public Broadcasting Station (PBS) where the majority of kids shows used to be hosted with Pre-Kindergarten education as the intent.
National Public Radio (NPR) is the radio outlet whereas the other two are on tv. NPR has historically been about news and adult topics to keep the masses informed.

Aside from C-Span, the other two have shown their bias more and more over the past few decades (or, maybe it is just because I've become more aware of it). Fortunately, we have a bazillion other channels to fill our time, so those gov't outlets mostly cater to the smaller group that actually wants that flavor of information. It's never been outright propaganda, but you can see the bias and intent in the messaging fairly easily.

The next question comes to the actual 'news' media and major channels. Supposedly independent, they've thrown a hard slant on information since at least the 80's and it's intensified since 2000. Note, I'm not naming a particular station, as there are a few on the right and many on the left but they ALL have abandoned the middle and give opinions as facts, telling the public how to feel about a situation rather than presenting facts and letting the public decide for themselves. The question becomes, are THEY funded by groups with an agenda, if not by the gov't. Personally, I don't see these being funded by the gov't directly, but their owners and leaders are significantly aligned with the views they espouse, and as such welcome funding from supporters of 'their side' - whether that is GOP or DNC parties, party members, or businesses that support those views. These stations are self feeding animals, in that they spew their position to those that already agree, and are in turn supported by those groups.

I'm not sure an true independent, fact based station would survive. I still like to believe so, but I am not confident.

It's less about Warren lying, and more about Bernie standing true to his values:

Only one candidate received no money from any billionaire: one billionaire had tried to donate $470 to Sanders’s campaign, but as soon as it was called to his attention, he ordered the money returned to the donor. Point stands, however, on two counts - money talks, and if you want to be heard, you have to have (a lot of) it. Second, Warren's never been accurate on anything, and the little she's been challenged on (how to pay for medicare for all) she shows she lacks substance below her attempt at zingers or headlines. I'm surprised she got as far as she did. I'm also surprised, and pleased, to see Bernie holding to these self-imposed standards and continuing to do as well as he is.

Perhaps JG's point was on topics with the ABC ‘news’ crew failed to call her out on the lie which is certainly true, both on the spot and by all media in the days following. Seriously, until someone challenged her on funding her visions, where had ANY media questioned her platform? They didn't. They tried to move her to the front of the line with gentle questions (compared to what was given her peer candidates). She has failed, but the media did what they could to continue to prop her up.

Truth. I’m so sick of opinion commentators as opposed to news reporters. Fox has a decent news team, but they’re couched in between such a atrocious commentary that one has to be ready to ‘change the station’.
I like PBS.

I watched them for a few months last year because I was so fed up with the woke nonsense and they do cut to the chase more than other channels. But after a while their bias started getting to me more and more. The comment section as well.. Those people are nuts and I like reading comments.

The problem with Murdoch is the amount of power has and how corrupt he is. If he was left-wing it’d be just as bad.

Download podcasts before you set off (or don't if you have decent data whilst you are travelling). I had to do a lot of driving and flying over the last few months and broadcast radio will drive you insane.

Amen. It's why I put out a thread before asking for non-conservative radio stations.

This was a group of moms on their day off doing voter registration

And the media reaction tells you everything.

Mike Duncan, History of Rome is great.

I started listening to a bunch of others but killed them without listening to a full episode or can't remember if they were good so I guess that is a no.

Podcasts are a bit hit and miss but I think overall the signal to noise is better than broadcast, sometime the host is super annoying but the subject is interesting.
