Having been a long-time lurker I feel this is probably the best place to turn to in search of some guidance relating to MDMA use by the elderly and associated health risks. (Also; hello everyone!)

The subject in question is a woman in her early seventies who is in very good health, of average weight and regularly engages in healthy activity. She does not suffer from hypertension currently, despite having suffered from it in the past more than likely related to stress. At present the only medication she is on is a "bio-identical" hormone replacement therapy for menopause and thyroid medication (the specifics of which I am not aware of at present). So I'm interested in any possible interactions, suggested dosage, as well as any health issues I should be aware of associated with old age. She has no previous experience with MDMA or psychedelics of any kind and I feel the experience would be immensely beneficial for dealing with a variety of emotional issues.

Of course I'm mainly posting here in search of health related guidance but if anyone wants to chime in with their first or second hand cognitive experience that's cool too!

EDIT:

I've just discovered the subject has also been on a daily regime of 50mg metoprolol for a number of years to treat tachycardia, the cause of which is more than likely stress as no underlying physical condition had been discovered. Ambien is also taken for sleep on occasion. I assume this probably changes the picture considerably and unless I can find enough information to feel confident we will probably not proceed with any experimentation.

All amphetamine-derived substances are stressful to the heart and I think this is a particular issue with elderly people. The mentioned medication doesn't pose any immediate risks, as far as I see it. Start with a low dose, like 50 mg, to see what the overall physical effects are. Be prepared that metabolism of certain substances can be slowed down in elders, and the effects of the drug (incl. side-effects!) therefore can be prolonged resp. increased.

It would be helpful to report back after the first trial, so that folks can comment on the outcome of the experiment.

Good luck!

AFAIK there is nothing wrong with mixing a beta blocker and MDMA. There is no reason I can think that the two would be contraindicated. Don't give me any of that "strain on the heart from pulling and pushing both ways" crap, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system are antagonistic in nature. All that it will do is block some of the noradrenaline released from reaching the receptors.
I'm not talking about cocaine and amp, only mdma...

MDMA is not absolutely contraindicated in the elderly but start with a much smaller dose than what a non-elderly person would take. Other than that the standard precautions apply.

Well, I know your friend is a bit more elderly, but my g/f is 60, 4'6" and about 6.5 stones in weight.

She finds 110mg of MDMA superbly blissful. No side effects except eye-wiggles. Very mild comedown during the week after. She's not on any meds, but has low (but not to the stage of needing treatment) blood pressure.

But then she can wolf down 350mg of acid and say "this is really amazing" =D

MDMA isn't as stressful on the heart as other uppers but it still does get it up there. Like everyone said, start with a low dose. Also can I ask in what form is she eating this MDMA? It would be unfortunate if you just picked up some street pills and accidentally gave her a meth bomb. 8o
